Training 2021 Pre-Season Training Discussion

The trade with GWS was the right choice. That draft was a very difficult one, after the clear top 2 of Rowell and Anderson, there was a big drop off in talent. The players taken in the top 10 probably struggle to make the top 10 in most other drafts. We gambled on getting a top 2 pick, but were thwarted by the incompetence of Gold Coast and Melbourne. From there we were in an awkward position.
There were 2 things which really hurt us - neither of which were Gold Coast and Melbourne.

The first was Carlton sacking Brendan Bolton mid-season, with David Teague getting a dead cat bounce from the team (who were just relieved to have Bolton gone), resulting in them winning 3 of their last 6 games, and jumping ahead of Melbourne in the process.

The second, was the AFL randomly deciding to give Gold Coast a priority draft pick - despite none of their problems being due to a lack of high draft picks. Without this Rowell was an Adelaide Crow.

Or at the very least, Noah Anderson. Who would have thought Melbourne would have also performed so poorly after the year before making a prelim..it was almost like halfway through the year when they realized the game was up they tanked..not sure you can say that out loud though about vic teams, especially ones that had previous form but escaped any sanction - apart from their former coach when he became part of our coaching staff and then the AFL went wack

Quite correct... Noah Anderson, not Matt Rowell.

One of these is a total gun and streets ahead of the other who's not close to selection discussion due to form issues. Can you tell which is which?

A few thoughts:
1. One has been an absolute gun who is approaching the end of his career.
2. The other is someone we hope will be an absolute gun.
3. You might want to charge your device.

With all the positivity about the club I think we are due the usual get ahead of ourselves prediction.

The showdown in round 8 is shaping as a classic and potentially our first loss for the season.

Rd 1 Geelong @ home - W (round 1 at home, we come out on fire)
Rd 2 Sydney @ Sydney W (lot of great young talent in Sydney, but still expected to be around us on the ladder)
Rd 3 GC @ home W (Good Friday game, we never lose on Good Friday)
Rd 4 North @ Marvel (it's North)
Rd 5 Freo @ home (doable)
Rd 6 Hawthorn @ Tas (they could finish bottom)
Rd 7 GWS @ home (they are going in the wrong direction)

From there the wins drop off, draw gets tougher, we win 1-3 more games for the rest of the season.

Round one done.

Rowell to miss round three?
