Training 2021 Pre-Season Training Discussion

^ More excuses. A slump means you have gone down hill from a higher point. His two years here are best described as flatlining at a low level.

Yeah, no.

Jones is a kid who ticked just about box for a draftee at Adelaide in his first year. Contract extension, very early debut with some promising moments, dominated some SANFL matches (Norwood stands out) before finishing the season with a very promising 18 disp/2 goals/7 marks/433 mg against the dogs. A near breakout performance.

Jones was coming into the last preseason exactly where Sholl is now. A kid with a lot of promise and showed signs he'll fulfill it. To say otherwise is revisionist history at best case.

What dictates 2020 was a sophomore slump, or 2019 was a false dawn is 2021-22. However, his 2019 has at least earned the benefit of the doubt coming into 2021 that it was just 2nd year blues.

Hmm, didn't Tilthorpe win (or finish in the first couple) the forwards 2km run? Yet he needs "miles in the legs"?

One assumes he needs match fitness miles otherwise I dunno what they could be talking about.
Groins....contain the 5 muscles that move your legs...

Thilly reportedly carried groin pain most of the season at Westies so it shouldn't be too hard to understand why the fitness crew/coaches are going to be taking a conservative approach.

we tend to only draft players that need a couple of years working on their game/body in the SANFL.

Not this year, outside of Cook in the main draft.

Thilthorpe certainly does not need that time, seeing he's already 100 kg, though we should be cautious this year. He had some groin issues in his draft year, and that could be a potential stumbling block if we do too much too quickly.

That wouldn't be because we've not really had too many opportunities with high end draft picks until of late in the main?

Until the AFL intervened one of Matt Rowell or Noah Anderson would have been suiting up in a Crows guernsey last year.

Hey all, been a lurker for way too long. Thought I’d finally create a profile and bestow you with some knowledge.

Player’s measurements have been updated on the AFL app, and nowhere else as of yet. Thought I’d post this because a lot of people were referencing incorrect measurements last year. Which I can only assume is because the AFC website is 2 years out of date for some reason.

Here is a bunch of our younger/inexperienced players who are a notable difference from last year.

Few thoughts:

Few anomalies like players losing height and or weight probably just explained by error and natural variation.

Good to see most of our young inside mids bulking up. Really gives players like Hately, Keays, and O’Connor a point of difference from Sloane, crouch, laird. Hopefully allows Jones to be more competitive in the contest.

I suspected Hately’s weight of 83kg was wrong last year because there’s no way he put on 8kg over the off-season.

Very happy all of our young KPD’s have stacked on the muscle. We need them to be more competitive this year. Wasn’t sure Butts had it in him given how skinny he was when drafted. I’m bullish on him personally.

Hamill put on some good weight.

Sholl’s and Mchenry’s weight loss seems a little odd. They both look more muscular than last year.

Thilthorpe is huuuuuge

Borlase is an absolute tank

I'd be very curious on Tex, Fog and Himmelbergs numbers this year.

Still, it's good to see Jones get into that 83-84 kg range. Shows he's put the work in. Schoenberg up to 86 kg is also promising, though I doubt you'd want much more to be added to that frame by that point.

8 kg in a year for Hately isn't too unbelievable, after all, Gollant, Worrell, Butts, O'Connor and McAsey are all up by a similar amount.

McHenry losing size though is not good at all. He doesn't have speed as a weapon. It could be possible a loss of weight could be making them look more ripped though, on top of doing the work. Sholl I can certainly live with, after all, he's primarily an outside midfielder and dropping a kg or two might help him find a little bit extra leg speed.

Also good to see Worrell break the 90 kg barrier. Just needs to get rid of the mullet and get some games now.

Im not a huge fan of them for your "run of the mill" goals which Rowe is guilty of.

A matchwinner or pulling a goal out of your backside.... Go for your life.

A goal is a goal, in today's world you have to get get noticed to get drafted. After getting overlooked for 3 drafts he decided to make sure people knew he had scored.

I suspect this is it.

I thought about this but it's not an official match, it's it's training session.

I can live stream women's grade cricket one day games on my oled with the Youtube app. This game I'll probably mirror a spare android phone to the tv with horrible results, there will be no casting feature.

Pretty typical AFC behaviour.
So the club goes to the trouble of broadcasting an internal trial game, and we ******* bitch because it's coming through the club app instead of YouTube.

Until the AFL intervened one of Matt Rowell or Noah Anderson would have been suiting up in a Crows guernsey last year.

So you're saying MFC would've still taken Jackson and we could have gotten Anderson...

The stream isn't some act of benevolence, it's a way they can pump up the website hits.

Offering up a dated, sub standard stream when they easily could have done the better option. * accessibility, let's get the website hits, they'll be happy with whatever we give them.

It's easy to just dismiss being an internal trial, but it's very AFC, it's part of the culture.

Not a lot of chatter about young newchurch on this thread.. which is possibly warranted..

Would f*n be stoked if he pops his head up from out of nowhere and kicks 4 goals in the trial match!..

Too much to ask?..
I'd highly doubt he'll be even be playing a full game so I doubt that'll be happening.

Thanks for sharing these stats. I know someone who recently lost 15kg in two months dieting and 20kg over four months so fairly rapid intentional weight gains and losses are possible. It is good to see the key position backs, particularity some mobile ones, putting on the weight as that is where our vulnerability is IMHO with Hartigan gone. Obviously they are digesting a fair bit of protein and adding muscle through weights etc.

Surely Gollant didn't put on 13kg in a year.

On Pixel 5 using BigFooty.com mobile app
Yep.

In the space of 13 months, Gollant has added 13 kilograms to his frame, a reward for his consistent diligence and hard work.

The Calder Cannons product said there is no real secret behind his increase in size but admits consistency with his diet and gym work have been key ingredients behind his success.

No change from last year for any of them.

Hately's third preseason, drafted 81kg, already looked pretty bulky last year. Just seems a little weird. Not that I care, good to see him put on some size.

I understand that the ones who have lost height are now in relationships...

Stooped shoulders "yes dear", takes a bit of your height
