It is different standards for different players, it's not a level playing field. Different players put in different effort and get different results. Doc was an AA, Thomas was an AA, both received unlucky severe injuries in no part due to effort. Both have always had a high work ethic.

McGovern has never been a great player and has always had claims made against him that he's a conditional player with effort that rises and drops. Training habits have often been queried and you could see in his body shape he wasn't putting in with lots of ticky tack injury issues that could be related to fitness and training efforts. Granted the last ~2yrs it seems he's stepped up his training efforts and that's great, but even then he's had periods where he looks to be lacking motivation on the field despite reportedly putting in off the field.

2 guys who are proven superstars and are off field leaders and mentors you'll give benefit of the doubt to. A guy who's never been anything but a tease with questionable work ethic, on decent money, traded in for 2x 2nd round picks and is in his already in his mid 20s isn't going to get that privilege. Guys earn that respect, and McGovern hasn't yet. It's not an unfair equation.
McGovern being the player he is has really suffered from a lack of continuity, in for 2-3 games and then out again for 2-3 plus a lack of continuity in training as well really affects someone like him who relies on his touch to get his confidence going, think of the marks he has flown to early for or to late which comes down to touch and training loads.

Russell says he is in the best shape he’s been in and he has had a pretty good pre season without missing to many sessions, this should hopefully have his touch and his judgment honed a bit better than past years and hopefully he can get back out there for the Saints game and get his game ready for Rd1 by flying for and clunking a few marks instead of misjudging them.

I’m expecting a good season from Gov this year where we see him pushing up high and taking marks and then wheeling around and delivering with his beautiful kicking to Harry on the lead as this makes us a much better side.

It’s looking like our forward line against Essendon will be Harry with JSOS and maybe Kennedy as the other talls given CAS and Gov are out, no Betts either hopefully they give Durdin a crack.

Pittonet the lone ruck so it will be interesting to see if they play Moore as the back up to him, can’t see many other options can’t see them taking Harry out of a bare bones forward line, our lack of back up talls is being exposed early let’s hope it isn’t a sign of things to come in the season proper.
We'll probably have 10 man interchanges so I'd say close to everyone fit will get a run

Is Cas out though. Not on the injury list from Russell.

Cas will be playing ruck and CHB as the only remaining uninjured KPP.

Weiters hurt his neck carrying his B&F medal, TDK got a weak back a week back, Pittonet has made it through to the finals of lookalike competitions for both Eric Bana and Gru from Despicable Me, Marchbank is currently covered in bubble wrap and Jones has 'fist awareness'...

:p

Inflammation in the knee after jarring it, apparently he’s carried it for a while and won’t play against Essendon.

I just saw on the AFL site that we have added Crocker to our train on players after his 4 goals in the intraclub as a small forward, we need to be adding KP depth with at least 1 spot whether they open up another spot by putting Charlie on the LTI list is anyone’s guess, or Kemp for that matter as syndesmosis will take a fair chunk of the season.

The annoying thing is we actually do have good KPP depth on our list compared to other teams...we just constantly have injuries.

Not many teams could have injuries to 3 key marking forwards (Levi, Charlie, Gov) and yet still be able to field the calibre of McKay, JSOS & Kennedy.

Great opportunity for a few blokes to stake a claim.

I am firmly of the belief will are a better team with JSOS in it, dangerous around the goals, good at ground level, can go into the midfield (or down back if need be) but most importantly offers a marking option in transition that allows us to move the ball forward while still keeping a key tall deep.

Pretty sure Jack Russell said he won't play against * and maybe not St Kilda either but should be right for round 1 , hopefully he has a big year I can just feel it will be a good year for him and he definitely won't want to miss playing in a final because he isn't picked for lack of form . 🤞

Starting 6 for me is Harry, JSOS and Kennedy as the talls, with Martin, Fish and Gibbo as the smalls. Would love to see a lot from Fog and Durdin.

Reckon against * we’ll see might even everyone who’s fit get at least a bit of a run.

I’d think a forward structure would be pretty much what you’ve said.

Harry, Silvagni, Kennedy, Gibbons, Martin, Fisher, Gibbons, Williams, Cripps, Fogarty, Murphy, Cuningham, Durdin, Honey, Owies and Carrol the names that could spend time in the forward half

It's a practice match, so given that 9 players have been ruled out, you'd imagine everyone who's fit will feature.

I think they'll take the opportunity to see how a forward line like below functions:

HF: Murphy/Fogarty JSOS Fisher/Martin
FF: Cuningham/Honey McKay Durdin/Owies

If they're serious about developing more attacking options, that's the path they should go down.

For what it's worth Richmond barely plays with kpd's over 193....think their tallest is 195. ..more about collective defence than any random tall bloke

Balta, Rance, Astbury

Barrass, McGovern, Schofield

I agree it's more about the collective, but we are thin in that area, if we suffer injuries, which we have. Lose Weitering or Jones, we are in trouble. The other thing is players like Marchbank don't have the body or the natural aggression of a Grimes or Broad

Let alone Marchbank can't even get on the park right now, but you are 100% correct.
