Teague was a dour shut-down defender only, but coached the forwards at Adelaide. Think Clarko was a defender, but could capably coach a number of departments - some can specialise, but generally go OK whichever group is assigned to them.

It's more Barker's been at Carlton forever, doesn't have much coaching acumen and is responsible for an area of the ground which requires a hell of a lot of thought, planning and adaptability and we've been seemingly running the same program for years. Cripps' emergence and continual dominance at the stoppages has arguably kept Barker employed.

And photos. Son’t forget the photos.

I think the biggest thing for the club now is so many good young players being in the 22-25yo bracket, where there body and mind allows them to bulk up, increase endurance, and know what being a professional athlete is, we used to have s glut of 18-21yo expected/hoped to be elite footballers, it takes time, and that time is emerging now, exciting times

The issue is not so much the age range now, it's if the development will leap forward.

Reality is we have a large mass of players who look likely but are yet to really establish themselves as consistent, high level AFL players. Think about those younger guys who have already had a taste but are not yet AFL locks: Cuningham, Fisher, Setterfield, Gibbons, SPS, Dow, O'Brien, Fogarty, Kennedy, Stocker, De Koning, Marchbank, Philp, Williamson, Cottrell.

Our ability to get 8-10 guys breaking out in the next 12-24 months will determine if we can compete in finals. Noting that most are not KPPs - the structures we've built are really solid, we need more cream on top.

That's what makes this year unlike any other. Not only is it a huge season for the club where the expectation MUST be finals, but the future of so many of our kids is dependant on how they perform.

JSOS, Honey, LOB, Parks, Cottrell and Ramsay all out of contract this year. Cunners, Dow, Stocker, Marchy and Willo all out of contract next year.

2021 is the year where we see what they're made of.

A few years ago, when Weiters was going thru a bit of a slump, and Jones was a bit hit and miss down back, Marchbank was arguably our best emerging defender. Then injury struck .

But he's back and we should look forward to a massive year from him.

He is in my team as the third tall. Bit like Plow, he has the speed, strength and nous to defend taller and smaller. Lift our capacity to play a system or match up defence. Marking ability has been missed and will be relished. Don’t make him a wing or anything else, just play him where he is most capable, defending.

Unfortunately only played an average of 8 games over his 6 years of footy.

He's just as much of a mystery as Charlie. Both could definitely return to AFL and play great footy, but just as easily could never play at senior level again.
Need your morning coffee?

All those highlights and not one plumbers crack to be seen.

Fair dinkum, some of those boundary highlights were further out than Harmes. Even boundary umps were captivated.

And with Saad running off him should minimise that disposal clanger.

He does have a great engine. Can confirm from watching and timing him in preseason. I think he would be a top 7/8 runner at club.
Don’t think he is smart enough to play on the wing. My only criticism is he holds on to the ball way too long before disposing of it. If our game plan is to move it to our forwards quickly he will need to improve on that aspect of his game.
Not sure how good of a set shot he is but I would like him to spend time up forward where required. Beautiful reader of the flight of the ball and can cause some mismatch with his athleticism.
Haven’t given up on him taking on kp defensive role. Hope he takes the game on and goes for runs out of defence

Gee cant wait for that first practice game against Port with the likes of Dow, Stocker, Philp in the middle roving to TDK sitting on shoulders, Kemp getting some game time running off half back and Durdin buzzing at the feet of our forwards and Honey showing everyone his best fend off. This goes without mentioning the obvious players I cant wait to see out there.

I can't wait to see those players but I don't want them to be thrown in together like we have in previous pre-seasons. I would love for the Likes of Dow, Cuningham, Stocker and Kemp to be given serious midfield minutes as part of a combo with Cripps and Murphy or Ed and Walsh - something more akin to what we will expect of them in the season proper where they can excel at being the third banana rather than crumble at having to be the prime mover. The all need to find that belief they belong at the level, allowing to get off the chain while the experienced blokes do the heavy lifting is a great way to build that in pre-season.

Exactly right there has to be a middle ground between Bolton’s strategy of player development and Teague’s relying on the old guard.
