In November, the AFL confirmed the total player payments and additional services agreement for 2021 would be cut by nine per cent, with players to take a 3.5 per cent pay cut on average.
..players will be subject to at least a 3.5 per cent pay cut on average in 2021, the league has put the onus on clubs to enforce this themselves, leading to many contracts being reworked and some back-ended*
The report notes that, while winners of the award this year wouldn’t get a one-off bonus payment, it would likely be worked into their salary for a later year on their contract.
* One list manager ... the AFL risked having “18 Collingwoods” if clubs were forced to back-end so many contracts to stay under this year’s cap.
