So I’ve posted on a number of threads my opinions throughout the last 2 years with varied ideas and thoughts on the club but after some thought this is where I stand at the end of this season.

So apart from the obvious covid crap taking hold of the world I believe that 2021 and the end of 2020 were horrible as a pies supporter but it’s been the wake up call we needed. It’s like having a heart attack then changing your lifestyle for the better, it’s not what you want but it’s the best thing that could’ve happened.

The new coach (McRae) possibly will be able to build a new team and grow with that team, it’s a complete rebuild that needs to be done properly not half arsed like has been done before. This will mean years of pain and frustration but if recruiting and coaching gets it right our rebuild could be absolutely brilliant. A load of top 10 picks over the next few years could have us set up for a dynasty by the end of the decade. I look at the hawks for example and the draft class of the early 00’s and what happened for them. It’s definitely possible. Carlton have somewhat screwed their rebuild at the start by not going for top picks but getting recycled players which didn’t work. Now even though they are a basket case they have a very good spine to build on by actually taking the right early picks but being solid off field is a must that’s why we need everything to be fixed from the board to the boot studder.

My hope is the fan base get behind this total rebuild and be patient, I have over the past few years wanted to burn the place down (figuratively) and start from the ashes. It looks like I’ve got my wish so I now will be patient. Let’s hope the club doesn’t go for the quick fix. We don’t want to be Geelong a decade in the finals with nothing to show for it and no early picks. Has it been worth it for them, maybe, it depends on what happens this season but a half arsed recycle is not what we want.

So let’s start the rebuild with a new coach and a generational talent in Nick Daicos. Build a game plan around the players we can get in the next few drafts. Have a spine then get a supporting cast around them. We have Grundy and Moore which is an excellent start. Let’s get top 5 picks not 20’s and 30’s etc.

There’s plenty more I can say but I’m going to leave it here. Basically now that the shit has hit the fan let’s start the clean up and get behind the new regime.

(Let’s hope they don’t f it up.)

No argument with what you say but the board and the infrastructure have to be sorted real fast - too much uncertainty for players and it's a sht look for our prospective corporate partners to deal with.

As a diehard supporter I’ll get behind the club with optimism in my heart, but I think you’re seriously gilding the lily to suggest that in 2021 of all years, this was a kick in the guts we needed.

I mean, after postseason 2020, and how we’re all feeling, this is more like repeated kicks to the balls while we’re already lying on the ground, vainly trying to decide whether to protect balls or face.

No argument here, I wouldn’t have put it quite in the words you did but wholeheartedly agree with the sentiment.

Always protect the balls.

Perhaps to the OP.

But I think we can rebound quicker than this suggests and have a genuine crack.

Off-field
Mcrae has a big job ahead but i like the choice.
He'll bring plenty of energy and Leppitsch will add some experience to the place if he joins. He's been around some winning football teams.
Wright as football manager will also add to a sense of capability around the place vs a washed up Walsh.

On-field
Grundy can rebound with a new voice in his ear. He is a duel AA player.
Tay Adams was an AA player last year. He finished the year poorly but can reset.
DeGoey should finish top 3 for the first time in his career and looms as a powerful midfield option.
We're adding the best youngster in the country in N Daicos, who's form has been as good as any of his peers in previous years.
We do need more depth though. Sidebottom, Pendlebury, Daicos, Macrae, McInnes will form much of that, the latter two will be better for having had some football this year after zero in their final underage year.

Hopefully we get Howe and Moore for most of the season. With them, Maynard, Crisp, Quaynor, Roughead etc, our backline is actually very competitive. We were cruelled to have lost both Moore and Howe for big chunks of the season

Our forward line is the biggest problem.
I like the smalls that we've added in McCreery and Ginnivan. Dib will add to that.
Don't have the class of Weightman or Kosi P though.
Henry will take confidence from the second half of his season.
A key forward remains our biggest list need.
Not sure how we address the problem. Riccardi or Weideman but both are really second stringers?
Realistically, it must be our priority at the draft in 12 months time.
Another key back is another list need given Roughead's vintage.
