Do we use the Nick Larkey model to develop Charlie ie a full season or two in the VFL to develop the skinny body, or will necessity force us us to play him given we have a death of key forwards. The club seems very bullish on a bloke who is yet to represent it at any level so I suspect he might sneak in a game or two as the season unfolds. Let’s hope he doesn’t get battered around too much if he does play. He could form a serious two pronged attack with
Larkey for the next ten years if all goes according to plan.

Some clubs develop a game plan around their playing list. We have developed a game plan first & then recruited to fit it. Connor is an example of this. He is the right age group for our list & possesses real speed to fit in with the run & carry mantra. Will be keen for a wing spot but has to get past Trent & Jared first. They cannot match his leg speed so has a real advantage. If he plays well in the pre-season games he is a real chance for Round 1.

is he a like for like for Tom Murphy. Similar size & skill set with perhaps a bit more pace. Let’s hope he is more successful than Tom. Another that appears to suit the run & carry game plan. We have a few medium Half backs so he will start behind a few but if he can nail down a HB flank it will allow us to play the others, Perez, Young further up the ground.

His testing results sound like another version of Jy: a hard at it forward/mod with elite evasion skills. Given where he went in the draft compared to Jy we may a bargain. Is likely to start in the VFL but we will be keen to get games into him. We have an abundance of new mids & forwards who can rotate through the midfield so he will need good early form in the VFL. Also, like Jy, he exhibits leadership skills & a quite determination.

Loving all these little write ups Wonderdog ......We are surely due for a draft haul period that all clicks and the majority become senior players of high quality.
Ta for that LB. I guess the proof of the pudding will be in the eating. At least this time we worked out a game plan first & then recruited to it rather than the other way round.

The commitment to try & kick more goals is welcomed too.

when was that pic taken,,,,,,young fella with the flaty got some great strides on him.

IIRC in the Powell draft night video there was one of his mates that practically took his head off in excitement who was a clear North fan, perhaps this is the same bloke.

Another draft pick that accords with the run & carry game plan. A real speed merchant but looks like the kicking needs a bit of work. Played wing in the SANFL but I reckon small forward is the go initially with us. Given his size & weight is not likely to play many AFL games in 2021. Reckon he’ll become a fan favourite especially if his talking & defensive pressure is developed. A longer term prospect.

I saw him yesterday in Collingwood out with Tom Campbell... this kid is tiny.

He would look taller if he was out with Jack Mahony.

Ha, well that's true. I was actually more comparing him to myself.

He's really scrawny. Skinny legs. Smaller than I would have expected an AFL draftee to be. Looked happy as Larry though.

We recruited him as a forward, played him as a midfield taggers, then as a defender so he fits in with versatility mantra espoused by Nobes. He has a huge standing jump result in testing hence a good explosion base. Given this I wonder if he could take over the role vacated by Marley as the small forward lockdown specialist. He is brave & showed he can find the footy but butchered it a bit last year. Another who needs a clear run with injuries after virtually no pre-season last year. Will be fighting with Flynn, Young for a small defender‘s spot but has different skill sets.

Happy to have Phillips, but because we didn't take Logan McDonald we are putting everything on Comden.

You could argue that we have been more successful with talls late in the draft than we have in the early rounds. We've selected a crapload of talls over the years in round 1 and 2 and really only Tarrant and McKay (potentially) have made it. Every other tall who has been regular was a trade to late pick.

Taz was pick 15 I think and McKay 17. To get a gun tall forward with pick 2 would set us up.
