briztoon the rumours of us flirting with downgrading our pick #2 to #5 + extra picks were doing the rounds during trade week ie pre-Noble.

That would suggest we'd plumped for Phillips from a long way out and it wasn't a late switch from McDonald made by Noble.

There's no way we'd have risked sliding our pick out if we'd wanted Logan right until the last minute IMO.

38. Tristan Xerri.

Listed on the club website as a key forward but is probably more of a ruckman. Looked aggressive but raw on debut last year & didn’t seem to have much forward craft. The dilemma is how to get games into him as as a ruckman when Goldie plays best when he is the sole ruck. The key to him getting games is to improve his forward craft so that he can be a legitimate forward target while giving Goldie a chop out in the ruck.

From what I have seen he looks a sleeker and fitter. Be interesting to see how he goes this year.

37. Kyron Hayden

We recruited him as a forward, played him as a midfield taggers, then as a defender so he fits in with versatility mantra espoused by Nobes. He has a huge standing jump result in testing hence a good explosion base. Given this I wonder if he could take over the role vacated by Marley as the small forward lockdown specialist. He is brave & showed he can find the footy but butchered it a bit last year. Another who needs a clear run with injuries after virtually no pre-season last year. Will be fighting with Flynn, Young for a small defender‘s spot but has different skill sets.

I just don’t see how he is going to get a game. He is purely a ruckman, not a forward & therefore behind Goldy. Heaven forbid Goldy goes down then Xerri is clearly next in line as he is a young guy we need to get games into. Goldy goes it alone so there no room for Tom to play in the same side especially as he is not mobile enough to be a key forward target & Xerri has him covered there too. By all reports a great clubman.

He is so frustrating cos his best is very good. I reckon he will do a lot of mentoring of our young mids in the VFL because at his age & our development needs I just can’t see him getting many games. Perhaps as the season progresses & the young bodies need a rest he might sneak in a couple of games. The run & carry game plan seems to suit him more than the previous game plan but I think he is the type of player who plays best in a good side & we are not yet at that stage.

44. Cam Zurhaar

The knock on him at draft time was his lack of a tank & this is still his no 1 area of improvement. A natural forward, very good one-on-one & & can get goals in multiple ways. Love his physicality but it would great if he could provide a few midfield minutes. Has had multiple pre-seasons so should be building the endurance. Is likely to be our no 2 marking target behind Larkey. Best 22 at this stage but as the other forwards of around his size can play some midfield will need to add another string to his bow to keep them at bay.

If you remove first round compensation, then the second round becomes f*****. If you finish 18th you should be taking the 1st and 19th best kid in the country IMO.

It is interesting that we chose to re-rookie him rather than use the spot for EVW. Given the events of 2020 he has little exposed form on which we can judge him. Originally brought in as a defender with good disposal skills especially by foot but now, perhaps out of necessity, being considered for a key forward role. Listed as 192 cms & 75 kegs so will need to do a lot of bulking up if he is to have success in this role.

It shouldn’t have anything to do with where a team finishes on the ladder. A players value has literally f**k all to do with where a team finishes on the ladder. The compensation should be fixed solely on the player and their value. The fact that a players value can swing 18 spots in the draft because of how a team performed is insane.

To me a fair compensation system would be to rank each player over certain criteria such as salary, length of deal, age, BnF finishes, etc which would then accumulate to a certain amount of points. Once the points are tallied, it would then return with pick in an overall ranking system.

Off the list here there are obviously a couple of super premium upgrades to the team but that's all I can really see.
Doubt we'll be looking to play a mid 20yr old fringe player over a draftee we picked up this year.
Any decent tall forward options there or players that tickle your fancy outside of the obligatory josh kelly mention?

Has there been any word from out of the club, either officially or from sources, that Noble had any influence on your first pick?

From his time at Brisbane, we know Noble places a great emphasis on key forwards being able to take contested marks in the forward 50. Jack Reiwoldt or Tom Lynch types, athletic and jump and crash packs to take a mark.

I’m not sure Logan McDonald is that type of KPF.

Our ability to cover ground has been atrocious, we expect our players to be able work the arc's back and fourth.
So plug holes down back and offer options up forward. This is still a very basic game when compared to some other sports.

good I did mention our "need for speed" a long ways back now . I suggest the voices in my head are somewhat connected to NMFC. Or am I running my own minority report type set up.
