Interestingly, he's the only one from the 2019 Draft that has stood up injury wise, otherwise all 3 would have benefited.

Hopefully things change for Comben and Perez but using past history as an indicator of future performance we might have another 2 Garner types on our hands.

Would love to eventually get a Betts, Cameron, C Rioli, K Pickett type player on our list. What we are doing putting together a top shelf midfield and bringing in a few big boys that will hopefully develop into good quality KPP’s is the right way to go. Crumbing fwds and goal sneaks will be the cherry on top.

And he’d be behind larkey, zurhaar, CCJ, comben up front for us. The only way I’d see him fit in is as a kpd depth. Is he better than McKay, corr, Walker, young? If not where’s his upside. I see a lot of size but not much hardness or skill

Agreed he’s a smart player and he’s going to be a very good player for us. My only concern, and I think the main point of contention when measuring him up against Hill is his lack of speed.

Do any of the people writing Hill off here know anything about him? I like Jack but I'm not sure we'll ever see him do this:

Seems moot at this stage , he’s chosen * for the record at the right price I’d like to see him AND jack in the same side

If he had played reserves the last two years he would have been getting 20 odd, setting up a couple and probably kicking a couple himself and we would be demanded his selection. He has had a baptism of fire

Same with Laz and Ford I think.
It will be good for us going forward.
It will be nice if Perez and Palker get a few games this year.

Not a big deal missing out on Hill

Spicer while slight of frame showed some electricity hitting the packs front and square, and actually put on a bit of muscle since he came to the club

Happy to back the lad in for a couple of seasons

Also think JHF will be right up there with our leading goal kickers next year

Would have been hard to trade for hill without getting a player involved as pick 42 would not have got the job done

As well with Hill going to *, means they most likely won’t draft a small forward and probably won’t early, which in a draft which isn’t full of quality smalls might benefit us.

We play a lot of good HF meduim type players with pace (taylor, stevo, tt, zoohar etc) -plus now CCJ and Larkey team up so there really isnt space for 2+ small forwards in our side without drastically changing things up.
mahony, spicer and whoever we draft will really be competing for a single place in the 22 or 2 AT BEST.
pretty interesting position to be in right now.

This competition for spots will really help drive us forward. The improvement out of the top tier of our young players (Simpkin, LDU, Stepho, Powell, WiPhi, Lrkey, Zurhaar, McKay) is super important but if that next tier (Bonar, Scott, Ford, Mahoney, Perez, Taylor, Attu, Lazzaro, Spicer etc) really have to lift their games to hold or crack a spot in the team then that can be the big differentiator.

Spicer I have some doubts on, while he clearly improved his build over the year his kicking concerns me a fair bit. Mahony on the other hand I think has decent odds. Shown all types of glimpses over the last two years while playing some thankless roles in out shit team, and he's shown previously he takes his off and pre seasons very seriously.

I know for a fact that the coaches are really happy with Jack's development. You are spot on about the thankless roles.

I think he played most of his juniors as an Inside mid. Changing to a role that seemed to vary between wing, high half forward, and pressure small forward would have been an adjustment and a half. I like his character.

The coaches are working towards him being an inside mid longer term.
