Well it's probably about time for this, I guess...

Remember, this thread is for news articles/possibly tweets if half-reputable and discussion posts will be deleted - feel free to chat about the articles in the trade thread. Note that just because I post a story here doesn't mean I don't think it's probably rubbish (Denham, Ralphy, Waldron etc.) but it's worthwhile having a place to keep these stories together.

Edit: Also I won't be posting stories that break down to "Ex-AFL media personality thinks the Lions should pick up so-and-so" if there's no evidence that we're actually interested in that player.

Jon Ralph: Ceglar certain to be traded. The Hawks open to trading Mitchell or Wingard but only if someone comes to them. Lions don’t have cap space for Gunston so Hawks would have to pay majority of his deal. Could pay 200 of Ceglar’s 350K. Still plenty to play out

His open letter to fans on Thursday night was only the latest in a long line of Hawks officials conditioning their fans to the news that might eventually come late in trade week.

We say might, because Port Adelaide seems disinterested in obvious target Mitchell, and because Richmond and Brisbane have caps so tight they seem disinclined so far to make bids for Gunston (the Lions) and O’Meara or Mitchell (Richmond).

Brisbane is already back-ending some salaries into future years given their tight cap.

But do they need Mason Cox as a key forward or Gunston, with Hawthorn potentially paying half of his salary for the next two years.

Dwayne's World SEN: Daly confirms Darcy Fort is the priority ruck option the Lions are chasing.

"We've been in good discussions with the Cats about Darcy. Hopefully the dominos can fall our way and I think Darcy is pretty keen to get to Brisbane so if we can get that deal done that would be great."

Stagnant ruck sweepstakes could lead to Darcy Fort’s trade hopes stalling (Josh Barnes, Geelong Advertiser, 10/10)

THE cost of replacing Darcy Fort amid the stagnant ruck sweepstakes could see the big man remain at Geelong next year, despite his desire to be traded to the Brisbane Lions.

Fort has stopped short of making a trade demand to become Oscar McInerney’s back up at the Lions and is instead happy to return to the Cats if a deal can’t be brokered, as four clubs continue to work through deals for three big men before Wednesday’s trade deadline.

Should Fort get his wish to be moved north, he would likely be replaced on Geelong’s list by Hawthorn big man Jon Ceglar, while Collingwood’s Max Lynch is another ruck potentially on the move.

Replacing Fort with Ceglar wouldn’t be a simple straight swap for the Cats, with the Hawks desperate to secure high draft picks during trade week and hopeful that the lure of paying as much as $200,000 of Ceglar’s salary would net a decent return.

Brisbane football manager Danny Daly has been clear that Fort was his club’s “priority” to add height its list with forward Eric Hipwood to miss most of the season due to a knee injury.

Scott Lucas, the head of Phoenix Management Group, which manages Fort, said earlier this month that given Fort was under contract for 2022 he understood a deal would only happen if it suited Geelong.

“If Geelong say no, then they say no,” Lucas told Trade Radio.

“Darcy didn’t play a game this year for Geelong, so therefore you do have to look around for him and try and present some options for him to get the most out of his career.

“We have had a look into it and there is still a bit of work to do, but we are hopeful.”

Geelong recruiting and list boss Stephen Wells said last week that it was most likely Fort would be still a Cat in 2022.

Brisbane is prepared to package together multiple back-end selections to help secure Geelong’s Darcy Fort and ignite a four-club ruck trade.

The Lions have been in talks with the Cats about off-loading several late draft picks including 50, 54 and 60 to the Cats in return for Fort and potentially a pick back.

Fort, 28, is an important target for the Lions as he is a ready-made replacement option for frontline ruckman Oscar McInerney.

BRISBANE PICK COULD UNLOCK RUCK TRADES

A FUTURE third-round pick could unlock the ruck merry-go-round set to spin on the last day of the Trade Period.

Brisbane's interest in contracted Geelong big man Darcy Fort has made for an interconnected range of ruck possibilities, with the Cats keen on Hawthorn's Jon Ceglar before they release Fort to the Lions.

But that would also take a pick to head to Hawthorn, who are likely to send the pick to Collingwood in exchange for Max Lynch – although that deal could be done slightly separately to the other ruck moves.

It is understood the Hawks are pushing for a future third-round pick to come via the Lions to then pass onto Collingwood, with the Pies already well stocked for selections this year.

But the Lions have been unwilling to part with the selection given the club has father-son and draft points considerations next year with Will Ashcroft, the son of triple father-son player Marcus who shapes as a No.1 pick contender. - Callum Twomey

Callum Twomey: The keys are in the ignition for the ruck merry-go-round. Movement has been made this morning for Darcy Fort to Brisbane, Jon Ceglar to Geelong, a future third likely to head to Hawks. Last piece remaining is negotiations on Ceglar's deal at Cats.

Big Cat becomes a Lion: Ruckman on the move for draft picks (Michael Whiting, AFL.com.au, 13/10)

BRISBANE has got the ruck option it craved, landing Geelong's Darcy Fort in a trade.

The Lions gave the Cats pick 50 and a future third-round selection in exchange for Fort and pick No.41.

Following the retirement of Archie Smith, the Lions have scoured the competition for options to support main man Oscar McInerney in the ruck and have landed on the 28-year-old.

Fort, who stands 204cm, has played eight games in three seasons for Geelong, but none in 2021.

Behind McInerney, Brisbane has tried forward-ruck Tom Fullarton and also has untried youngsters Henry Smith and Kalin Lane on its list.
