Are there other teams?
Theoretically, I would do Ladhams and 16 for Mitchell. It’s essentially Ladhams and Arlo Draper for a 28 yo Brownlow medalist. It’s not 100% unrealistic either.

Hawthorn are rebuilding. Port are in the window. Port have 3 quality rucks. We can only keep 2 happy in 2022 and beyond. Hawthorn have an aging ruckman who plays CHB. Mitchell is 90% chance of being an A grader in the next 2 years. Ladhams and Arlo Draper are no more than 40% chance of ever being A graders.

Our midfield would suddenly have 2 Brownlow medalists and a player who came 2nd in 2020.

Our midfield needs two things: players who get first hands on the ball and players with some speed. Mitchell does the first part; Boak, Rozee, Butters, Amon etc do the second.

We clearly wanted another ball winner to go with Wines- 4 years ago we thought Rockliff would do that. This year we wanted Merrett. Mitchell is the next best and only AGrade option that could be available.

Re: Ladhams, with the serious lack of decent talls in the AFL, especially ones that are coordinated, about to break out, still in contract, there trade value would be relatively high.

Clubs who really need a ruckman would also pay overs both salary/draft value to get them.

Sydney might be in the ear of Dawson, saying pick Port, which opens a window for a shot at Ladhams.

If Dawson is a no go, I'd love to somehow extract GWS's Pick 2: Maybe Party Ladhams, Houston and 16 for Pick 2, Finlayson, next years 2nd. Then try and get Horne-Francis off North somehow.

All this "Ladhams is looking at his options" seems a very "CD" way of strumming his fingers on the table and encouraging Hayes, keeping a rocket under Ladhams all while reminding Scotty that time waits for no one. Can't imagine we go into 2022 with just two recognised rucks, one untried, and sign up to actively burning the remaining Dixon if needed when he's got a contract for 2023 anyway (along with Scotty and Hayes).

I'm expecting all three rucks to be here next year (and Dixon!).

Dawson, who does he push out of our 22? Bonner (maybe at top of his trade value after a great PF with little support)? Houston (a similarly sized defender also with great disposal). Knives are out for DBJ after a disappointing year - that would leave Jonas as our shortest defender.

Then there's the midfield dilemma, is it enough to just rely on one or two of the Three Amigos growing into that more explosive type mid we want to complement Drew/Wines/Boak/SPP?

Don't recall a year where our supposed trade targets bring up quite so many questions of 'but who/how do they replace?'.

Interesting stuff!
