Nathan van Berlo discussing McAsey in the Hun

Fine. Then a 3rd rounder it is then. It's not like his draft position means anything 😉

Reckon Darcy Moore would be a lot happier with some red added to his jumper.

Imagine him and Dougal running rings around opposition small forwards

Not just that, but effectively choosing who they play for. Cuts out a lot of negotiating that clubs should have when dealing with other clubs.
Playing AFL level football isn’t a right, it’s a privilege, and seeing some players issue ultimatums on where they will play is not a good thing for the AFL. Set a contract price, and whoever matches it and offers the best trade should be where that player ends up.

Yep, if players (particularly only 2 years in) were only allowed to nominate a state, and not a team.... I dare say there would be an awful lot more players who decide to stay with the club who drafted them.

For the good of the national comp, i believe it needs to be fixed even though it means we as a Victorian club would be worse off.

Taranto and Heeney still on the radar this year? :p

The HMAS Heeney has sailed unfortunately.

Our recruiting department have definitely learned a valuable lesson for the future though:

If you want to get a player to sign a contract with you... you should speak to the player about it.

Joff reckons the tarantula is in the bag though, and his mail is never wrong unless you count all the times that it is.

McAsey for the old future 2nd is on!

Would honestly be happy to keep the players we want to keep, trade the future 2nd for McAsey and somehow have two picks in the top 30.

Our future 2nd will be around the pick 35-40 mark.
I'd love to hear from posters about how we're gonna afford a genuine quality KPD when we still have a pretty average draft hand and no one to trade out for any meaningful return.

It’s a good question
After how the recruiting team have performed that last few years they will find a way

No reason why we shouldn't give up a first for the right player. That's why we were so desperate to keep one last year.

I can see that, but equally if we give up this year's first then we're forced to use next year's at the draft.

I think McAsey presents a bigger issue with this than my preferred boy Payne.
Payne could get done with something akin to the Higgins trade assuming Brizzy finish a few places higher than us, which they probably should.

How will they finish above 1st

All well and good if Payne wants to come I guess and if Brisbane allow it.

We aren't. We will either have to give up a decent player or whoever we do get will be another stop gap type or an unknown quantity.

I'm glad you have faith, but it's not so easy to fill that one KPD spot as it was to intake all the recent recruits.

We got Hill, Doogs and Paddy for roughly our pick 5 and a future 2nd, plus the GOAT
Zones was a rough swap for Hickey
Butts was a good will trade for nuffin
Higgo was at market rate
Crouch was Free

Despite our success overall, when we've gone after a particular player we've always payed market rate or over, unless there is "special" benevolence from the other club.

Adelaide will not offer any good will with McAsey. Another reason to go after Payne because he's stuck in the 2's when he should be playing AFL, and IIRC he was a late academy pick up that cost them SFA..

I think it would be a hard sell convincing a Sunshine Coast boy to come to the pluck-off-cold Melbourne winters, and having come through the academy he's really been a piece of that club for 5-6 years already.

I think if we wanted to leave for opportunity Brizzy would accommodate, so him missing their finals campaign would be the thing to wish for.

We used a first rounder last year for Allison. We only have to use 2 in rolling 4 years. We should be OK I'd think wouldn't we?
