Next year Hill needs to move back to the Wing and play well.

I give him credit for turning his season around this year off HBF and it was noticeable that he worked on his defensive game. Some of his defensive efforts were actually good despite it not being a natural part of his game.

Next year we won't need him down back so he needs to really step up and play well on the wing.

Retaining Geary is absolutely fine. We've got a lot of player movement anticipated as it, I'm fine with keeping him on the list for another 12 months and be a depth player for us. It's better than some of the alternatives we've had this
Geary is from an era where we were generally uncompetitive and bereft of any real leadership and star players. Apparently being out spoken and brave/hard working is good enough to be a captain.. let’s face it, Gears is a GOP that won’t get in most other sides’ backline, the fact that he is now 33 and can’t stay on the park should be enough reason to retire. We were not overly sentimental with Goddard, Dal Santo and Montagna/Riewoldt, need to be ruthless and cut the players that are not going to make impact; adds little to the team.. in the past we are way too conservative with recruiting/list turnover/player development.. time to turn a leaf.

It states that Bytel is 6' 2" in his profile , Is that correct? and he is about 12kg lighter than Danger though and both the players you mentioned have speed off the mark so Bytel has some work to do. Dont think Ross is capable of holding players like that, they are the best in the league.
Bytel listed as 189cm and 84kg. Danger 189cm 92kg on afl app. With stoppages I think aside from speed it's smarts to read where the ball is going

Ross ended up doing a good job on Kelly, but agree he doesn't seem ideal for that role. Mainly for me because he lacks of aggression

"His departure from the Saints will enhance Hunter's chances of a new deal with Ryder expected to soon sign an extension for 2022."

Would honestly rather see Heath get a game. Hunter offers very little, and if worst comes to worst, and Ryder and Marshall are injured at the same time again next year could play Heath and have someone like Battle chop out. As we saw with Silvagni, unless you are an elite tap ruckman like Ryder, it's better to play someone who can get around the ground and contribute than someone who can only tap the ball.

Some older Saints highlights popped up on my YouTube feed.
Billings has all the skills and it is easy to forget his quality due to his injury this year.

Happy to keep him.

Dunstan, Ross and Lonie going and people are getting the vapours? Spare me [emoji849]

This is one of the most dramatic posts I’ve read, even by your lofty standards.

Bravo Sir [emoji1319]

My dramatics haven’t changed much. Under Richo we sat around where we are now. How long is too long to wait before we just boot the lot of them. Honestly it’s one step forward and then straight back again. We are are very disappointing club for a reason and it’s looking like the promises they made were lip service again. We are rebuilding again after a decade of it. I’m tired.

What constitutes a rebuild in your eyes?

I actually thought more about your comment. I was the one shouting down the Hill trade and paying out on him for most of his time with us. I don't condone overpaying solid players unlike most of this board including yourself most likely. So it's a bit fn rich to throw that comment my way. Same with Hannebery, the same old rusted on types here were defending him just like Hill while i was sinking the knife in at every opportunity.

So shove your comment where the sun don't shine and go hold hands your bestie Joffa. :)
Wtf are you talking about?

I was saying you (as in us stkilda supporters) would love the club to have a crack at Cerra if it was doable in a fair deal.

You just need a nap then it will fine again

Billings at 500k sure.

any more and I would rather stick Byrnes on the wing.

nah, not at all. Pick 6 to 9 and a player like Ross :)

Definitely not giving another first or second.
Mate I was saying if we had 2 firsts. I’d deal 1 for him.

but if we had a single first. I wouldn’t even talk to them

Btw for all the crazy talk about not letting Dunstan go lately and everyone potting crouch.

They are similar players. With crouch having better disposal and can actually spread, so he isn’t a liability after the contest.

oh and a BnF winning All Australian in a grand final side.

I think Caroline wilson may have been on the money and to be fair to her. She generally is - people don’t like acknowledging it because it generally is her breaking news that isn’t great to hear.

however I disagree with you on bottoming out. Free agency has completely changed the landscape. Example Finish second bottom and think you are getting the second best kid and 1 of 2 only elite players? Nope bottom club lets an ageing star walk and you get screwed.

I like to look at it factually. If all 3 left and we got 3 second rounders. What did we losing playing wise?
Experience ✅
Talent ❌ (only 1/3 is highly talented)

Dunstan had another purple patch and probably hurt us towards the end.
Billings has given us minimal for 18 months
Ross is the whipping boy of a lot of posters.

we also get say 1.5-1.7m in cap space back.
So we are left with an Arsenal and currency to make deals if we choose.
No it’s not an Arsenal, there’s not much left in free agency and we don’t have the picks without deviating from what’s been stated about using our first this year.

So what does it really get you, if we had the picks two very good players or one A grader and a good player. So we’re loosing two very good players imo there’s nothing in free agency and we don’t have the picks to trade. Looks like gringo is spot on to me we’re going for a sneaky youth rebuild while stashing away some money and maybe a pick for next year.

I understand there’s always surprises but no free agents and no high picks means youth or the bargain bin imo.

Midfield of Steele, Crouch, Jones, Clark, Bytel... hopefully one or two new

Rotate Gresh and Higgins through there

I'm fine to keep billings. Play him on the wing.

If we lose Dunstan and Ross we'll be fine.

I was in the keep Dunstan camp but if he goes, he goes. To me hopefully he'd become depth and that's not what he wants.

Contracts mean SFA nowdays if a player wants to move and a deal can be done. Plenty of players but the cost is higher.

Take a 4th for Lonie - happy to admit that I've never rated him. Just can't cop him going to ground and watching the opposition waltz it out.....
Take a 2nd for Battle - I think he's at the point where his trade value is now more important to us then his on-field value.
Take 3rd compo for Dunstan and Ross - I'd like to keep one of them, but if both go, so be it.
Take 2nd compo for Billings - he's reached his sealing and we are not where we need to be to get the best out of him. Trade now while value is high-ish or hold and by the time we are legitimate challengers, he will be an also-ran.

We have to be brutal and take the risk. If not now, then never and remain as irrelevant as we always have been.

Go into the draft/trade with a really solid hand - We grab the best available fit-for-purpose mid in the 1st, the KPD from WA with a second, NGA's after that and even package up picks if it allows us to.

Money ball type that might be worth a look at is Lewis Melican to give us some KPD cover and Howard/Wilkie a chop out for size
