You may be right in the short term but if all 3 stay and are mainstays in the team we won't come close to a flag in the long run.

I'd rather we try Bytel more in the guts and give him the license to try and improve as a footballer instead of picking the old mainstays so we can feel confident in getting Dunstan's 25 touches either dug out of a pack admittedly well or blasted on the boot aimlessly

We tried Bytel in the guts and he went missing. More then once he's done next to SFA. Dunstan actually wins the ball and tackles properly against bigger bodies and more importantly stays consistent. These two are not even on the same page, one may very well end up delisted down the road while the other has currency at pretty much every club in the AFL.

Where are we weak gameday? Back six recently has gone on a stretch keeping teams to the lowest scores in the league which is impressive considering how often we chop and change back there. Forward line is led by a quality 35 gamer and the players around him are also good quality. It's our midfield that keeps letting us down as we have no depth, no quality outside Steele and we are too small and slow as well.

If our only answer to rectify things next year is to remove Dunstan and put Bytel there, we can expect to finish a solid bottom six. Steele cannot do it on his own.

Matt crouch is better and gettable
He didn’t play a game this year that’s the big red flag, Hannebery must have the alarm bells ringing on crouch. I guess if your doctors clear him it looks like a no brainer dunstan for crouch but things are never that easy.

The first thought is how does this impact what we’ll get as compensation, the AFL make it up as they go along I’d want some assurances on that score.

Obviously due diligence etc would need to happen.

the point was more that you can replace these guys.

So if Seb & Dunstan leave we give more midfield time Byrnes & Bytel with the latter helping Crouch do the grunt work, which will free up Steele do the precise things getting the pill to the outside runners in Byrnes and Jones.
We still have a few that can rotate through the guts, take a midfielder in the draft to nurture & hopefully find a ready made beast for the backline, don’t think we are to far away from contending in all seriousness.

Bytel listed as 189cm and 84kg. Danger 189cm 92kg on afl app. With stoppages I think aside from speed it's smarts to read where the ball is going

Ross ended up doing a good job on Kelly, but agree he doesn't seem ideal for that role. Mainly for me because he lacks of aggression
Danger is an aggressive midfielder and gets away with a bit of stuff, he does have power and speed off the mark. Ross has done some good tagging roles but I am not convinced that he can tag all the good ones but there is no other player suited for that role in the current team.

ESPN has him right up the top end of the power ratings. His season has been outstanding and he'll get taken in the 20s to 30s I reckon. A few teams will be wondering how he didn't get picked up in the midseason draft. Maybe he put 2 year contract terms up or something.
We should have taken him ,,,,,, feck
This guy was let go once already and despite plenty of publicly around him 18 clubs passed in the MSD.
There'll be a reason for it..

Probably Steele is, but we wouldn't want to take him away from his game

Sydney are super tight there are players torrid there. Not sure about Melican, I've never really noticed him.
He has not played much this year. In and out of the swans side, he did play a couple of good games but dropped off. I think McCartin took his spot at CHB.

I hope you dont mean contending for the flag. We are a fair bit off that, if we can get into the 8 for a couple of years running and win a game or two, then we can pick up 1 or 2 top players and our younger guys come on then is the time to start talking top 4 which basically means win 16 games- thats a lot

"Co-captain Jarryn Geary is closing in on a fresh one-year deal."

Love gears but… it's time to move on, make him a coach if we need his leadership around the club.
You could only imagine this is exactly what they're doing.
The club obviously rate the shit out of him so having him at Sandy when we have a bunch of new kids might be a cracking good move.
So long as he's no longer co-captain or in the first 25.

This is one of the biggest myths on this board.

Every single premiership team has players a lot worse than Billings and Ross in them. A lot worse.

Has proven to be absolute fact so far. So don't know why you would call it a myth. What is myth is that we will win a flag with them in the team. Facts state it wont be so.

Haven't you got a Carlton board to pester?

So apparently now Bytel after less than 12 games comes up short and is not AFL quality but Dunstan after 7 years has four good games and four average ones and he is a keeper.

Wowzer no wonder this club is in a mess with analysis like that.

Bytel has only played 3 games since Mid May so I have no clue as to what is happening there. He was injured at one stage.

Not hard to work out matey. To present day, how many flags have we won with them in the team? You Statement is the myth unless you can see into the future.
The myth is that you can't win a flag with players the quality of Ross or Billings in the team. Thats complete and utter bullshit.

Most premiership sides has players a lot worse than those 2 in them. Whoever wins the premiership this year will have players a lot worse than them in it.
