If Bing re-signs at GC next year would we consider directing that money towards Brodie Grundy? Currently 27 and contracted until 2027. Pies maybe willing to trade him cheaply given their reported salary cap issues and the fact that they wont be contending for a few years

Isn't he on almost a million a year? Can't imagine we could squeeze him in unless Collingwood paid a lot of his wage.

We will see what happens. Most posters agree we should get a decent ruckman. Better than what back up we have now.

Oh I agree, would love to have prime Dean Cox and prime Spida Everitt playing in the twos. I just don't think it's likely to happen.

Anyone good will go to a club where they can be first or second in line, not a club where they'll be likely to play 10 games or so as third-string. That's a role for an ageing journeyman, a good VFL trier, or a developing youngster.

Havent we learnt our lesson about stop gap ruckmen?
I hope we don't hear the term 'break in case of emergency' next year - lol

At 23 Chol will still be getting better. Could very well be a very good consistent player by the time his is 25/26 and can fill in better the Hunter or Smack did this year. Wonder if he could play chb?

It's really an ideal situation - more than capable of coming in and playing a role well. Probably not good enough to go to a club and expect to play as the main ruckmen every week, but could definitely develop into an excellent player

Paddy makes our pedestrian midfield look much better when he plays. Marshall is good at taking the ball out of the ruck himself but his tap work is just okay. I see Chol as more a Marshall than a Paddy so am looking at guys with size and tap work. I think we will be having a look at Flynn ad Briggs types to try to get a proper ruck in.

As you said if King comes next year I think one has to do some back up ruck so Chol probably doesn't play.
heath will be the tap guy. young enough to learn and seems to have decent ruck craft already

Richmond probably expect Chol to leave having him on the rookie list so long he will be looking for some coin and being 25yr old next year he would be wanting to play more than 10 games like he did this year.
Having Reiwoldt , Lynch , Coleman - Jones , Soldo and Nank , Chol is just a spare we needed.
But it will be interested who gets him because a few clubs would want him and the Suns would love him.

Massively overrated unless you got him for SC. I focus watched him a number of times and he doesn't hurt the opposition even with him 50 odd, tap out games. Nic Nat and him are polar opposites for effectiveness.

Michael Rix is still only 40 years of age so should now be coming into his prime 👍🏻

He is a definite upgrade on both McKernan & PHunter.
Get him in I say!

We have picked up some good players from the Tigers and he would be another , given a good crack at it he would be a handy player.
But I feel he will be looking at length of contract and money and the club that offers him the best deal will most probably get him , atm by the looks we are looking at a few - McLean , Cox and most probably Chol , Flynn , Meek , Lynch etc.

He has a 1yr contract I think. Bit early to get rid of him yet though, still rucks pretty well when he is out there.
I am not talking preference. Just making an observation that nothing has been official. Will be hard to lure a ready made replacement ruck this year with Ryder on the books. If we like one available this year do you let paddy go to get them in, or do you roll the dice on what’s available next year?

There is no ready made ruck that is get-table to replace Ryder , but we need the best available that is going to cost us nothing trade wise because we have nothing.
It has to be remembered Port had basically written Paddy off when they picked Lycett from the WCE and they also had Ladhams , thinking his Achilles problems made him a a risk of getting through a full season , roll on 3 yrs later and we surely can't expect him to get through a whole season when he only played 12 this year and was having problems at the end of this season, same as the season before.
Ryder is a star but every game he plays next year will be a bonus and he is one injury away from retirement , he breaks down in pre-season all we will have Marshall and we can't afford going into the first few games like we did with a witches hat as a ruck for the first few games and we were lucky Marshall came back early , but clearly under done.
If they can't find a guy that can at least contest better than Hunter or McKernan they have failed this trade period imo.

I guess Nathan VARDY has been rejected by everyone here? I just noticed yesterday that Eagles cant fit himn in the cap had to let him go. Already been talked about??? Sorry if so! Is he any good for our purposes? He does have injury cloud so he'd fit right in!

i mentioned him a couple weeks back. WCE sounded keen to keep him around. he's at the age now where moving back to victoria makes sense. it'd also make sense for him to get a season more if he can to help the relocation. he wouldn't be expecting to be first ruck, i reckon he'd be happy just to be on a list, as long as the money is right.

he'd be a perfect fit for us. we don't need someone who's going to play a full season. we need someone who can be an insurance policy on paddy and marshall. vardy can play fwd and in the ruck. yes he's injury prone, but he's capable of 5-10 games a season.

he's be absolutely a HUGE improvement on hunter.

vardy is also pretty well liked from memory. would be good for some of the younger guys. he would be a good shield for Max Heath over the next 12 months.

Interesting one for sure, but surely getting a little thrifty on your BnF winning co-captain wasn’t ever going to be a realistic outcome either

i hear Sydney wanted to extend Buddy's contract as a way of smoothing it over in the final years when he gets paid the most, given it was back ended.

only problem is the AFL stepped it and wouldn't allow it, as it means they manipulated the draft, as that large contract was the only reason hawthorn couldnt match.

if they aint losing a handful of players, something sus is going on.

Our chants suck as is. If we sign him and i hear blokes chanting 'usa' ill hand my membership in.
Can't deal with more cringe
Shhtick it to 'em shlong

Few mentioned here

Sydney

“Sydney is trying to re-sign Luke Parker, Dylan Stephens, Jordan Dawson, Sam Reid, Matthew Ling, Callum Sinclair, Hayden McLean, Ben Ronke and others.”

Sam Wicks has a two-year offer on the table, hasn’t signed, Robbie Fox has a one-year offer on the table, hasn’t signed, Jordan Dawson told us here on SEN that Swans fans had nothing to worry about a couple of months ago, he hasn’t seen a contract that he likes at this point.

Dylan Stephens, rival clubs have been asked if they’re interested in him because the two-year offer for him doesn’t have him doing cartwheels.

“Other clubs say that the Swans would be more open to Dylan Stephens leaving than perhaps most of the others. The Swans do want to keep him, but at this stage won’t be cracking the piggy bank to make it happen.

George Hewett has been well paid, hence why he is a restricted free agent, we revealed he was on the trade table for a time last year, he is very likely to move this year and very likely to be at Carlton. Sydney has shown zero interest in re-signing him at this stage and that’s unlikely to change."

That was a great write up by Landsberger.

37. LEO CONNOLLY. Age: 20 Games: 7 Status: Signed to 2023
How many AFL players have taken a running bounce before they’ve ever recorded a disposal? This bloke has, and that skill and composure is exactly what Saints fans have been starved of. Since that maiden moment, Connolly has taken six more bounces and signed a new contract.

Couldn't help smiling while reading his take on Leo Connolly.
