It's just a hunch, but l see similar in Coff's issues to the Mk1 Dmac issues and l think the same remedy could work well. "Go out and play attacking footy" to free his mind.
That's what he was allowed to do in 2020.

He doesn't do well as an accountable defender and with Pato and Jimmy (and Wilkie) both available l a clear opportunity to push Coff up the ground and utilize his strengths.
I think the wing could suit him, much more than it suits Battle.

The issue he has though us that he's got the pace to break lines but we almost never see it. It's as though he's too timid to back himself.

Yes. I really remember against the Eagles when Carlisle didn’t play. 2020 obviously. That’s not his go.

Get him together with Connolly this off season.

Yeah l think the timid thing is from opperating too close to goals and having to mind a forward or position. Free him from the last line of accountability. It worked well for Dmac.

There was an article that was released that showed even Richo was very concerned about taking Paddy at No.1 but he was overruled by the recruiting department,, it read like they were determined to recruit a Key Forward for the post Roo era.
Perhaps the recruiting ghosts of 2006 when we took the midfielder at 10, instead of the forward that just happened to be the cousin of our Captain that we should have taken, pushed us toward Paddy in 2014 🤔

Yep, as long as he's fit enough I'd like us to use him as a primarily defensive half type wingman so we can still use him as a floating intercept type and a designated run and kicker coming out of defensive half, have him rotate with Sinclair/Hill.

Anyone interested in looking towards the future with optimism?
This mccartin/petracca talk is making me straight depressed. Can someone make up a rumour or something instead? It was 7 years ago, let's agree that it was dangerously incompetent drafting and move on.
Strong whispers that we will pick up a jet in the draft, Max King is going to kick 60 next year, Jack Billings and Cal Wilkie to be AA and Steele to win the brownlow. To top it off, Maxie's twin to join us the following year.

Coff doesn't seem to like to put the foot down in the way someone like Connelly does he likes to slowly trundle and lope.

He's like my mum driving a car she takes forever to get up to speed despite the fact the car will go 0-100 in 5 seconds if she wanted it to

Agree, the frustrating part is that if you watch his under 18's highlights it's very different to how he played back then.

He seemed to have the confidence to tuck the ball under his arm and use his leg speed to get get around his opponent.

He showed it once this year and it was in the last game. Shame about it, when he does it he actually looks like a player. When he’s down on confidence he looks like he belongs at sandy

Isn’t that what a coach is supposed to do? Instill confidence in your players? Over to you Ratts and co.

Id be sitting him down with a video of his own highlights from u18s to present day and telling him that this is what we need from him. Highlight what he can do, not what he can’t.

Our biggest issue is drafting & development - its been horrific for a decade

Biggest indicator of that is our current #1 midfield rotation - Steele, Crouch, Jones - all players poached from other clubs

I dont think there is another club in the league who's best midfield 3 are all players from other clubs

Very much hoping the tide has turned with the likes of Gresham, Clark, potentially even Coffield being able to go through there. Coffield is the interesting one for mine - his under 18 year had him rolling from half back & into the midfield - he had some epic head to head battles with Cam Rayner in the guts & would just about break even. Hope we could bring that edge back into his game

As for trades this year, I'd be looking at potentially giving Robbie Tarrant a deal if he's not getting one at North - feel he's a safer defensive backup than Talia even though he's older.

Narkle & Constable are interesting ones. I'd say yes to both, but only take Constable if both Ross & Dunstan leave. Narkle could potentially play half forward, wing & roll through the middle as well, ideally in a Shai Bolton-type role

Agree with everything you've said here.

Reads more like a dream, hope you didn't wake up and feel like you were in a shipwreck. :D

I hope we trade Battle.

Absolutely reeks of Acres to me. Tall player playing in multiple positions and master of none. Has the size to dominate but never puts it together.

Everyone was up in arms when we traded him but he hasn’t turned it on since leaving.

I hear we are recruiting for some speed and looking at Daniel Riccardo.

Jack Billings wont be All Australian - he's not a pure midfielder. When's the last time they actually put a real wingman/HFFer in the AA team

Plus I cant see Billings reaching AA level unfortunately. I'd be happy for him just to be consistently top 5-10 in our best & fairest, which he isnt at present

Toby Greene this year.

But Billings isn't near the play Greene is unfortunately.
