Easy - exactly the same way that every player who is on the margins and is OOC - you're free to go and test the market.

When you find out what the market thinks your value is then come back and we'll talk.

The only time that doesn't happen is for players you've already decided aren't part of the plan and you de-list them. (Clav and Alabakis)

As far as I know Lonie, Kent and PHunter are yet to be de-listed, so that tells me that the club still see's some possible value in them depending on what happens during trade and draft, but keep them onside enough that we can still offer a new contract if required.

Dunstan should be in exactly the same situation as those three - but he isn't.

Anyway - I doubt we'll change each others mind so lets move on to another topic.

Seb - good move/bad move? I'm saying a big thumbs up :thumbsu: - perfectly played Saints.
What makes you think that wasn't the discussion?

At no point did I hear Ratten say he wasn't wanted.

Ratten said himself in his last interview, Dunstan remains on the St Kilda list.

He still hasn't been delisted.

All we've heard is that both player and coach agree that it would be a better career move if Luke found another club.

So that is what he is looking at doing.

We've never said we wouldn't have him if he can't find a home.

Luke is the one that has decided he won't accept a contract If it's given to him.

That is his decision.

He's already said publicly he won't accept any offer from the club.

He obviously doesn't see himself as more than a depth player and doesn't want to stay when we are choosing to go down the development route with some of our young mids.
Wasn't all the footy media speculation this time last year that Dunny was being shopped around......and there was no takers?

I was half expecting him to not be on the list for the 2021 season.

Wonder how O'Brien from hawks would go-- UFA. Can play key back or forward- plays bigger than his 193cm. An upgrade on Battle

At the mid point of the season, there were 5 players on the comp who were averaging 20 disposals and 1 goal a game - Bont, Dusty, Bolton, Petrecca and Billings.

We know that he dropped off in the 2nd half of the year and that his serious plantar fascia injury was a big reason for it, plus he had that tweak to his knee after the bye. But to have a player so maligned able to get those numbers playing half-forward/wing is such a huge asset to have. And when you watch highlights, Billings is always so involved in the small things which lead to us scoring.

We are a better team with him fit and playing then without. And the whole 'soft' tag thats been attached to him by some is way off the mark.

There is a stat for "score involvements" , our top players , averaging around 6 score involvements per game, are Membrey, Steele, Billings, King and Higgins.
That would surely put him in the category of "damaging".
He also gets some pretty respectable "meters gained".

I couldn’t care less if dunstan isn’t happy, he’s a professional footballer who sooked it up after being told honestly by his coach that others were preferred at that point in time.

Now I’m ignoring the talk that he wouldn’t play other positions or follow instructions and just concentrating on his season. He smashed it at sandy got his chance played a very good block of games then dropped off again and was unlucky to be dropped for the last game. Exit interview probably followed the same line as the preseason assessment and he’s over it, out of contract and as a free agent looking for greener pastures.

I don’t have a problem with any of that, what I do have a problem with is that he was mistreated, hard done by and generally screwed over. He was well paid and carried at times over an underwhelming 8 seasons and 100 plus games, the club has done nothing unprofessional in fact we’ve made a decision to move on in an attempt to improve. Imo it’s luke who needs to check himself and have an honest look at his eight seasons at the saints.

I still don’t see how he was mistreated.

It seems this line of thinking comes from Tom Morris saying he was told that he wouldn’t play under any circumstances. Which doesn’t make any sense any way would want to cut it. After recruiting Crouch & with Bytel looking like he was ready to go, the ‘you’re behind these blokes’ was 100% accurate.

At the end of the day the bloke’s strengths weren’t rated highly enough to cover his weaknesses.

You said it yourself… dominated at Sandy, came good, dropped off.

That could apply to a number of seasons between 2015 & now.

Do you think it's worth trying to get Lewis Young as a defender, What will the Bulldogs want for him and is it worth it?

Young has requested a trade to Carlton.

O’Brien has interest from Dogs.

Per Cal Twomey.

Just seems like there is want to find every reason possible to justify why Gresh shouldn't play midfield despite his performances suggesting otherwise. Especially when we have a glaring hole in there for someone with his attributes.

He is far too talented to be sitting in a forward pocket. And if that is the plan for him, we might as well trade him because we wouldn't be using him to his fullest potential.
There is no want to do anything. I'm just stating my opinion where I think his best footy will be.

Was Robbie Gray far too talented to spend his career in a forward pocket?

I think you underestimate how important that player can be.

If he's as good of a midfielder as you think they you have nothing to worry about.

Let's not ignore how good he has been as a forward though. He was ahead of many of the best small forwards weve seen in the game, not just in stats but when looking at how he was able to impact the game in big moments.

Fair enough if Gresham has shown he is an AA quality midfielder, but in my opinion he hasn't.

He clearly needs prove he can start using the footy better to start with.

I've got no doubt he can have a career as an above average mid, but I'm taking Robbie Gray over an above average mid any day.

Hope I'm wrong because we are desperate to find another AA quality mid.

Guy I was replying to literally compared him to Petracca FFS

Now yes, there are people out there, Saints fans, that believe he’s an absolute star, and sits alongside Bont, Petracca, Patrick Cripps. They are bloody delusional

If you are one of these people that still believes JB is on the same level as these guys….

It wasn’t me comparing them either.

I haven’t seen many of those around since Bont had a slow start 2 years ago & JB dominated a few games.

It’s absolute rubbish Imo he’s been well looked after and now it’s over.

Agree with that. Very good small forward and has a highlights package that is great. We got the ball into the forward line this year but small forwards didnt kick goals- dont care how well they smothered and tackled. They didnt score. Gresham can solve that problem. The Fremantle win flattered us for those getting ahead of themselves.

I make a tired point: dropping Milne and Dal Santo was the making of the Ross Lyon era.
To make matters worse, Ratten talked the talk on dropping senior players only to follow through by dropping Butler. Imagine the rocket he would have sent through the playing group if he had Billings and Hill playing VFL.

Carlton list strategy is a laugh. Again overpaying for GOPs.
Lewis Young & Hewitt add very little to an already bog average list but take up money.
Apart from Walsh and McKay they’re a bunch of overpaid role players. Good luck to them

sorry, i don't believe he said it was unnactable.at least not in public. his manager said he would look around thats all.

Yeah but I'm confident his manager would have said it behind closed doors - that's how these negotiations work - "we couldn't possibly accept that number" - "ok fine we'll take it".

Yeah seems like a weird move to just keep on grabbing random mediocre players:

Newnes
Saad
Plowman
Williams (maybe a bit better)
Martin
Hewett
Oscar McDonald
McGovern
Newman
Kennedy
Young
etc

I think Voss will get the best out of 4 of those players- the rest will be kicking dew off the grass.

Anyone have any recollection of Tim O’Brien as a tall back? Has always looked talented albeit inconsistent. Plenty of footy left in him.

Seb Ross is NOT depth, he will play, thus halting development of one of our younger players. Oh the joy.

Man plugs holes, what do we have? Structural holes, if Seb was battles height you might imagine that the club would use him similar and we'd be having those discussions of if he could mebe utility or mebe 1 year because why not? One thing for certain though;

Ross worked on his opposite foot.
Dunstan, not so much.
