What did he do? Sold our picks off to the Hawks. I reckon it was insane still when we needed to get players in and develop them, it was a misread as to how good our list was. It got us Battle and Long who are probably not going to be on the list in a couple of seasons and Clark who may have been there at the Coffield pick any way.

We chased O'Meara too but he rejected us. I wish they'd just act like a normal club and not do stupid speculative stuff. Realistically Ameet was part of the Trout era of drafting where in a few years there will be hardly a player left off that list. It was probably the worst period of drafting/trading in the professional era for any club. He was the most overhyped administrator we have ever had.

We love our saviours and even defend them when there was no evidence that they were any good.

You're literally getting to the point where you find fault with any thing the club has done.

Beyond parody.

Now Dunstan is over, quite a few clubs have shown interest in both Long and Battle, clubs I have heard are Essendon, Dogs and Richmond, but for whom or for what is unknown.
I think we aren't getting offered what we require to move them though. I feel Battle may stay (wouldn't mind) and Long goes (wouldn't mind). But tht is opinion only.
Contracted players thankfully... so hopefully if they're interested enough they pay up. Otherwise, we keep.

I remember this too now that you mention it. From memory that poster was actually a practicing professional in that field themselves and was adamant that JOM would never play.
I think it was a Hawks poster and not a Saints one though. Probably chased away from the forum due to shame lol.
Nah it was definitely a saints poster. And you’re right they bet their lives (pretty much) on JOM never playing again

Might have even been Rors ??

Bailey Smith, liberatore, Adam treloar, viney and braysaw all had less votes than Dunstan.....does that mean they had a horrible year as well???

Brownlow votes mean nothing
So Ollie Wines is a dud too? Top teams are just that because you have everybody doing their bit, and sometimes with one or two standouts. Our performances this year were all over the shop, so someone like Dunstan who strings together a clump good games probably catches the umps eye- and those umps are in the midst of the action, not armchair experts watching on the telly at home.

If anyone wants a laugh have a read of this. https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/te...y/news-story/cc595215a55304909ce0172e74089797

I’d expect from Joey, but it beggars belief at how little research King does.

I quote: "Now I think Jack Newnes is probably as good a wingman, given current form, as Brad Hill – and he’s $700,000 cheaper. I think Luke Dunstan’s probably a very similar player to Brad Crouch … $450,000 cheaper."

lol, what? Garuntee they wouldn't of said that if Dunston was staying and Newnes was playing to his current level while still on our list 😂😂

The Dunstan free agency/delisted confusion really shows how little insight the journos often have. And probably why it becomes so hard to decipher between news and opinion. And maybe why David King and Adam Cooney are given air time 🤦‍♂️

When i said his knees are shot, i meant more in terms of his ability to break away from stoppages & spread at pace, which is what you would want him for. His patella issues have cost him more than a yard of his pace & even my Hawks supporting mates have said that they'd never have done the trade if they knew how much slower he'd be. Still a good player, but just a player. Not a star. We already have Steele, Crouch & Jones, & with Ross signing his extension, we dont need O'Meara.

However, if Hawks came to us for a Scully/Patton type deal, i'd take him for a late 3rd or 4th round pick... but that's not gonna happen. They'd want a 1st or early 2nd rd pick

On the "experts":

The media model these days is based on clicks (thanks to Google and Facebook), the best way to get clicks is to create controversy, very safe bet that all these "idiots" in the media don't believe or make up 90% of the shit they post as they know it will get clicks from fans.

Same reason 75% of the stories are about the 5 big clubs, bigger audience to click on links.

Don't read to much into it, no place for honest scoops anymore since we moved away from only a couple of news papers / tv stations.

The 3rd rounder would be great, but will Melbourne be paying him above the minimum contract?
Yes.

I reckon its more likely that Melb will be offering Dunstan more than the standard base for players ($105K per annum) and probably less on the incentive side.

At least 6 players on their list will be on standard (because they've been drafted in the last two years) he really only has to be paid more than another handful of players to fit into the top 70%. Daw, Mitch Brown - hope there's a few more

This is how it went in the alternate universe where we kept Newnes:
"They had that opportunity to get Hill and instead kept Newnes. Do they really think they can play finals with guys like him and Dunstan on their list?"

Was a pretty good draft/trade season.
We used the following year's 2nd round pick to bring in a ready to go young mid - Jack Steele.

The Hawks trade was for our first and 4th, we got the Coffield pick plus a second and third.
The best we probably could have hoped for would have been Florent or Venables.
Instead we ended up with all of Coffield , Long , and Battle.

I still think Long was an odd choice, but that reflects our recruiters rather than the deal done with the Hawks, which was very favourable to us.
God knows why we didn't choose Bolton.
At the time I believe Bolton told Tigers he would return back to WA at the first opportunity. They took the chance anyway and he is still there. Perhaps told saints same.

Goddard is the worst.

Most of the morning show on Trade Radio is Dal explaining the basics of how things work to him.

And he has to repeat it every day.

BJ wakes up with PTSD from 2010 then going to Bombers, Dal got detoxed though North, it's understandable, Dodo makes anyone a *******.

I'm pretty sure it was me back at end of 2016. And I'm certain i said he would be lucky to play more than another 50-100 games... Not sure I ever said he'd never play again

FWIW, he's played 78 games since coming across from GC to the Hawks

Very happy he didnt choose us. He's never got back to the superstar he looked to be early at GC. And the two 1st rounders & 2nd rounder it would have taken to get him... I'm stoked we never got him.

O'Meara was a classic Luke Ball scenario.

Remember Garry Lyon saying that when he coached Judd, Ball and Hodge, Ball was easily the quickest of the three, got OP and he lost a yard of pace and was a very GOP.

Same thing happened to O'Meara. Collingwood got Ball for nothing, and Hawks paid huge overs for O'Meara. JOM has been an OK GOP but not what he potentially ever was going to be.

Yeah I remember you being pretty adamant that he’d struggle to recapture his early career explosiveness and that he’d need to be managed. Seems like a pretty accurate prognosis
