Pretty much what I was saying preseason. Can probably follow up better at ground level and tackle. Plus he's not as dangerous forward so we don't lose as much from our forward line
Yes it is. I’m just going by my gut feel on his injury and potential timeline for recovery.Total unknown at this stage.
That is my fear too, would love to be wrong thoughI’ll be surprised if we see Hipwood at all next season.

I feel like McStay was also taking a number of forward ruck contests towards the end of the year.McStay really could be very good in there. He is undersized but not tiny and a good leap. A great field kick when he gets it too.
I think it's worth trying Starch in the middle as a more defensively minded mid, but to expect him to be any kind of line breaking Petracca type is about as pie in the sky thinking as we can get. That’s how I felt once our season ended but I’ve come around to thinking we need to try and get a point of difference in our midfield and someone like Starce could be that. I know it’s very unlikely but having watched Petracca and Oliver during this finals series if we have even the slightest chance to have someone like Starce develop into that we need to at least try it. I also think a fully fit Answerth, Coleman and Prior could and should be in our best 22 and this move opens more spots in their preferred position.
Why? it takes 12 months for a full recovery. There was nothing particularly harsh about it.I’ll be surprised if we see Hipwood at all next season.
Interesting you don’t roll out this comment for people who say they expect him back post the bye next season, or round 19 (which was mentioned on SEN yesterday). The amateur physios are out again

None of us know, but people here are particularly critical of anything that appears conservative.
Wish I could find the audio of the surgeon who did the acl operation on Elijah Hollands. He set out a very conservative rehab program. Hollands played his first VFL match 16 months after doing his acl.
Hipwood has hopefully another 8 to 10 years of football ahead of him. I don’t understand why people want him back in the team at the earliest opportunity.
Listen to Rayner describe Hipwood’s acl injury. From the 28:15 mark. Why? it takes 12 months for a full recovery. There was nothing particularly harsh about it.

I can find heaps of examples of conservative rehab programs for athletes with acl injuries. That's great. One example.

That’s the main thing influencing my uneducated guess on when Hipwood might be back playing.
Having followed the EPL and NBA from the early 90’s, I’ve read countless stories of acl operations and rehab.
Again another article I can’t find, but pretty sure it was likely from ESPN. They did a story on a California based rehab centre that looks after a lot of NCAA, NBA and NFL players. The story focused on acl injuries, the studies they’ve done on the age of players and rehab times, and rate of reoccurrence, etc.
There are some doctors and physio’s here (I haven’t paid attention to who they actually are). But it would be great if they possibly provided their educated opinion. Not sure if there are ethical standards or professional standards stopping them from doing so.

Bit of column A and a bit of column B.So your view is that he shouldn't return next year not tht he won't
In my opinion it's not worth moving him to the midfield to be a defensive mid, he would be of more value being a gun defender and I'd be using Berry in the defensive mid role. Like I said it's very unlikely either of Rayner or Starce become the game-changing mid like Petracca is so if there is a slight chance it's worth seeing if they can or not as it's so hard to find.I think it's worth trying Starch in the middle as a more defensively minded mid, but to expect him to be any kind of line breaking Petracca type is about as pie in the sky thinking as we can get.
Our best hope for that forward of center big mid is Rayner, but with the ACL will probably take another season at least for that to eventuate, judging by Petraccas similar trajectory.
I've still got a couple reservations on Madden but for him to have played senior footy already is a great sign and he was doing it of mainly athleticism which is pretty impressive.Adding Madden to that backline group opens up more options too.

Agree that we need to try and add something different to the midfield mix, but don't think it should be Starce. If it's very unlikely as you said that he reaches Trac levels, I simply don't think it would be worth it. There are other blokes we can trial through the mid. We know he can perform his role at a very high level and can shut down some of the most dangerous smalls in the comp. 4th in the B&F also suggest that the coaches really rate him in the role. He has the potential to be elite for his current position, so hope he continues to grow down back. That’s how I felt once our season ended but I’ve come around to thinking we need to try and get a point of difference in our midfield and someone like Starce could be that. He should be back in time for finals (assuming we play finals obviously). ACLs take 9-12 months to fully recover from. That is my fear too, would love to be wrong though
Fort is definitely my pick of the bunch. Not a fan of Casboult (because of injury rumours and anti-vaxxer wife) or Cox because he's too similar to Oscar not mobile enough or good enough in the ruck.
Fort is a bit older than I would've like but probably has similar ability to Fullarton as a forward but is a much better ruck.
Oscar/Fort would be a decent ruck combination until Hippy is fit.
Ladhams would be my pick but he’s apparently linked to Carlton under Voss
