Mike Whiting was asked to look at Mathison's running during the off season.

He said matho has the ability to run out games hard, the problem is in his head and his self belief. Source the Roar Deal.

Might be the kind of player that needs a line in the sand game. Maybe that's why they keep playing him. They believe it will click.

Also don't underestimate the value of the energy player that gets the others up and about. After the first awful final Fagan said he was going to talk to the energy players (he mentioned Mitch and Charlie) to get their opinion on what went wrong. Energy is the X factor.

Nothing would give me greater pleasure than seeing Matho have a breakout year out of nowhere in 2022. Imagine how much it would trigger oppo supporters :drunk::drunk::drunk:

Lack of bigger fish trade deals reeks of clubs being maxed out and maybe up to their eyeballs already with guys who aren't delivering with 2 or 3 years left to run and no one else wanting them.

The landscape has changed dramatically for most businesses via covid, near zero interest rates and a changing social landscape with working from home, portability and the ideals of the next generation not as linked to success and profitability.

It's spilling over into footy. Everything happens quicker now. The Buddy/ Grundy type deals are dead in the water. With Petracca being the outlier because he's a freak.

After watching Melb win the flag, it was obvious, hard running, and skills,is how the game is.We have two speed machines that we have to develope,Madden and Sharp will fill the bills.
We do not need Cox,no matter how cheap he is,when the ball hits the ground he shot,he not quick enough

On WA TV News tonight it was reported that Neale's manager has shut this latest trade talk down. "Neale is not going anywhere, certainly not to Fremantle." My reading is there may be a bit of angst the way Freo originally leaked all this earlier and put the Neale family under considerable stress.

I'd love to see it too.

I'm glad we kept matho. He wouldn't be costing much, proved this year he is a more than capable fill in, and a leader in the ressies. He is also a very loyal clubman. Lester has been lauded for years as a great clubman, the years he put in the ressies etc. Every club needs players like that, they create the heart n soul of the place. They bring on the young kids, pass on the culture and expectations. As long as the Lions name finishes with FC and not Pty Ltd, ya gotta have blokes like matho.

Whoever put the Grundy deal together must look back now shaking their head. If it was someone who actually liked / loved the club I wonder how they are feeling now.

Ned Guy from Collingwood, be like

"It's been put to me very forcefully this morning that there's no way Lachie Neale is going back to Fremantle." - Sam Edmund

Looks like this quote from Sam Edmund did indeed come from the Neale party.

Watching a replay of Trading day on Kayo. Interesting that Jon Ralph mentions that both Melbourne & Brisbane are interested in Gold Coast's pick 19.

Clubs including Brisbane and Melbourne could be keen to improve their draft hand in this draft while giving the Suns high picks in the 2022 national draft.

I suspect he's just guessing based on that.

do we have the list spots for the suns first round as well as our 2?
Unless we packaging up 3 first rounds into something lower.

Suns seem to have no spots as well.

Replay the Melbourne final. Matho did not have a disposal he did nott butcher. Nothing but blind hack kicks or missed passes. Gave away several unneeded frees. His front on against Gawn was reportable, IMO. And he is not going to improve.

Sam Walsh must be rapt to have Vossy as his coach....probably grew up with his number on his back.

Did you watch Mitch this year? When he took his time he had some absolutely brilliant passes. Too often though when he perceived pressure he just hacked it forward. Mathieson is pretty similar. In the reserves he showed he can hit a target.

Are we supposedly trading for GC’s 19?

They have multiple second and third round picks now as well. Would be asking for something else back as well.

Next year's first I think was the thought.

I hope we do not trade next year's first. Sure we can get points in later rounds for Ashcroft but I think we will also need points for Fletcher and McMillan and if we trade our first we are likely to be in trouble regarding points and the associated list spots.

I am starting to lean this way as well. I believe that there was only 3 picks this year that we were going to make. we have those picks later in the draft to either move into next year or try move up a little this year. I can't believe that we are not talking to the dogs about pick swaps!

How do you know we are not talking to the Dogs?

I’m all for keeping our 2022 first round pick, but disagree with using it just for points. As long as we have the points to cover the Ashcroft bid, that’s all I’d be concerned about.

I’d rather trade our 2022 first round pick in to 2023 for a future first round pick.

I wouldn’t be concerned about any draft deficit on second round or later bids for Fletcher or McMillan.

Of course there’s all of next year to play out, but at this stage I don’t believe Fletcher or McMillan are viewed as first round picks.

Draft deficits are “paid” the day before the trade period begins, so if we carried a deficit in to 2023, it wouldn’t come off our two first round picks, but later picks.

This is true 🤔
A professional organisation like ours, you'd suspect would be talking to the Timbuktu seconds if it means getting and advantageous deal happening. Other than Collingwood ***king over The Suns every other club is very scrupulous and strategic with their dealings. You would find sixteen other clubs are talking with the Bulldogs.
