Who?

The best one who doesn’t project to go in the National Draft is Sam Skinner.
Very unlikely that he's still there but Leek Aleer would probably be the only one I might take over Ballenden but even that's 50/50.

I reckon he probably goes 3rd round in the draft. The other one is Charlie Dean who potentially goes late draft.

I’ve been vocally critical of Ballenden on here, but he finally started to grow on me before the VFL was shut down.

He might finally be growing in to his body, and is starting to look like a man. I’d like to see one more season of him, to see if he’s improved his core strength and found a little aggression.

If we’re going to sign some VFL top up players next year, we could probably chuck $20k each at Hammelmann, Skinner, Reville, Triffett and Corey Lyons.
Gonna have to do better than $20k if we want Skinner to move interstate again.

By all reports Skinner had a great year, I know he got some discussion on the North board again after trialling with them last year. I do hope he gets another shot somewhere.

Apparently we're getting pick 41 back. I don't understand what makes it worth Geelong's while to give up 41 and Fort, even if they are getting Ceglar.
First, I read that more as a hypothetical trade than a genuine rumour.

Geelong may not have the list space to use pick 41, and it may be considered somewhat “overs” in other trades they have going, so they split it for later picks they can send to multiple clubs.

I’d be much happier with 41 as our third pick in the draft.

Looks like those picks will go to Collingwood to help get Daicos. Brisbane > Geelong > Hawthorn > Collingwood.
Yes it will help provide Collingwood with enough points to also trade their pick 27 into next years second round. Thus a full cycle for Collingwood retaining all their picks used from 2022 initially with the Suns. Very savvy trading by Wright from the Pies.

Am I imagining things, or did Daly accidentally mention we have pick 41 as one of our picks in that interview he did last week?

EDIT:

At 7:10.

So the deal in principal has been done for days.

Geelong is either still haggling with Hawthorn or the AFL want all remaining trades to happen on Wednesday.

The Afl must want Wednesday to be exciting. Action day!!!

I'll have my Chuck Norris action pants on for sure. Ready for anything.

Lobb earlier and now Wingard. Looks like Leon Cameron is going for one last hurrah before leaving the building.

I know the AFL own the Giants but surely they have to be tight in the salary cap
Both of those guys would have a fair chunk contributed by their existing clubs to come in.

If Wingard and Lobb do get there, that list as a whole would have the profile for a Ross Lyon takeover in 2023. All pieces of the puzzle in place, mature players, just need hard nose tactics and another ruthless push to that next level.

Ok, I’m out of the loop, what are the trades, or potential trades, Collingwood have done to get picks back in next year’s draft, while also getting enough points in this year’s draft?

The little talk I have read from the Pies, is that they potentially will only have four picks to take to the draft, so they’ll need enough points bundled up in those four picks.

From your list, I’d have Zorko playing mostly as forward flanker and part of the forward 7 starting 22.

I wouldn’t include Starcevich or Prior as mids, as I believe both belong in the defensive 7 starting 22.

You forgot about Tom Berry. Keep or delist?
Fair enough re Zorko / Starce / Prior. Part of the juggle is getting as many of your best players in the 22 while still suiting positions. Mine was an exercise in thinking who the squad of mids would be in a year or two's time. Prior could easily be a back in for Rich perhaps. Zorko I agree should move out of midfield but will rotate through a bit you'd think. Starce i am keen on for a mid trial but might not work out.

Tom Berry depends on the next year. I think he has shown a bit and would be inclined to keep him but he does need to progress.

You would be paying more money for a VFL player who does not provide the cultural advantages that Mathieson does.

Cockatoo is a similar type of player who has more upside if he can get truly fit.
I hope cockatoo comes good. needs to up his speed.

I see SPP as a Mitch replacement with some more time in Midfield. Nobody seems to agree though haha and a fantasy anyway with our cap.

I dont think we are slow side in general. I think we get beat on the rebound because our effort is not there. We need more defensive running from players who dont put in the effort. (mids and 1 small forward in particular) There are 3-4 of them that dont do it and I really hope that changes in 2022 because it will improve our game significantly. I do know its a focus of the coaching group. Watching a live game exposes these players because you can see them walking when the ball is not in our hands. Television doesnt pick that up.
We need to bring back the 1% award or whatever they called it during the flag years. Charlie when he wants to so good at forward pressure. When he's not in the mood though...
I'm not sure there is a bigger gap in intensity in the league than us when we are firing (total football for example Geelong and Port gabba games) or half rat power (Saints, Richmond second half at MS, Hawthorn most of the game).
