the best he can be Cuningham - probably the most enigmatic and mysterious player we've had at Carlton in years..and maybe the clearest example of developmental failure (to date) on the part of the Club.

I'll take a combination of the BOG * one with the added VFL 11 tackles & supposedly improved running patterns (but no concussion), with a sprinkle of the North game where he kicked 2 goals.

As the boys prepare to take on the Gold Coast Suns the following night, Queensland Bluebaggers are encouraged to come and watch the final training session before the game.

Cuningham - probably the most enigmatic and mysterious player we've had at Carlton in years..and maybe the clearest example of developmental failure (to date) on the part of the Club.

Cunners was not a big ball winner at U18 level and was always an athlete as much as he was a footballer.

He was also not expected to be drafted (by most) until the 25-40 range. So it's not like he was ever a sure thing.

The problems in his game are pretty much the same as they were five years ago. There is a very strong case for blaming that on lack of development. But perhaps he just lacks footy IQ and/or in-game focus.

When you look at his raw athletic and technical ability, you can understand why he went about where he did.

All good points and not just because I've previously amde them myself about the bloke.

I think the CLub has failed to develop Cuningham as well as it might have if it were better positioned to develop draftees in the past. I suspect that a rocket has been put up the CLub's administration and management regarding the non competitive and self destructive doom loop the CLub has been in by not controlling its own reserves team and investing in quality development staff to maximise the potential of draftees.

I hope he continues recieving all the professional assistance and guidance hsi talent deserves - same with all teh blokes we have drafted.

When you look at Cuningham's raw athletic and technical ability, you can understand why he went about where he did.

When you look at how athletically and technically gifted he is and the fact he was considered somewhat a reach at 19.... What does that say about his football ability?

The safest pick is always going to be an inside mid but at some stage you have to take a chance on outside players otherwise you end up with a one paced team of plodders. Cuners is the perfect player for the forward/mid role we are now making Dow play. Cuners would have been much more likely to kick that goal against the Tigers in round 1 to put us up.

Dow wasn't playing mid/forward in round 1 though. Right now you've got Gibbons, Betts and Murphy playing roles that would be earmarked for Cuningham.

Wait, no, we're still insisting that Cuningham would see 50% of his game time at stoppages because our incompetent senior assistant thinks he's sufficiently educated him on how to setup at them.
