2nds 2021 VFL and East Coast Second-Tier Competition

As long as he has nominated for the draft.

Was just thinking - if we were to have KPF injuries and he is performing well in the VFL, he'd be prime candidate to fill in if we need it.

Welcome some senior bodies in the VFL to assist the development of academy & drafted players. 12 months too late but better than never. Given the 2021 VFL season it probably hasn’t hurt too much.

Interesting reading back on this thread on some of the thoughts that thrashings wouldn’t hurt development within the VFL. Hopefully from here on we will now be more competitive.

Will we have any space on our list for mid-season draftees - I thought that once we take our 3 draft picks next week we are full?
Talking more about if any of our main key forwards (Daniher, Hipwood, McStay) in the AFL side go down to long-term injuries for the season, we would then be able to draft Buzza on a 6 month AFL contract, via the mid-season draft, so that he can cover for us at the AFL level for us.

If a player has a season ending injury in the first half of the season, they can be put on the inactive list, allowing us to take a pick in the mid season draft.

Yeah similar to Cam last year going on the inactive/LTI to allow us to pick up Kalin Lane in the MSD.

Still a fair bit of untapped potential there
Raises an interesting question as to who out of all on the list is most likely to be the first to win a debut?
If we are looking for a third tall forward option maybe Connor could get a look in or even as a big bodied mid if he is fit enough.
Kalin Lane potentially?
Michael as a replacement for Birchall.
Would probably be backing a new draftee over any of them actually.

You'd hope McFadyen with another full preseason can start to start showing he's not just an average state league footballer but he hasn't really done much so far. Similar with ESmith.

The club showed a lot of faith extending him IMO. Must be confident there is something there.

Definitely and it's been tough for reserves players but on form he's a long way off a senior shot and running out of time.

Very hard to judge players out of th 22 as fans. Hopefully the club have seen something and have made the right call!

A lot of the time the game is much easier playing with better players, put McFayden in as a third tall and give him a simple role and he will show something I believe.

I think reserves not been great to look at a few players.
If you are not the one getting the ball yourself like Joyce, Matho, Tom Berry etc
my thoughts we where at times like a junior side playing seniors.
Makes it hard when so many young top ups.. Structure fell.
So those playing forward did not have great service or any at times. Fullarton, H Smith and Lane young talls as well.
Those playing back where under pressure all game.

You see signs with McFayden.. Glimpses.. who knows. The club giving him one more year.
I saw signs with Ballenden and Skinner as well. Skinner got another chance now

Young Connor sees his future as a midfielder in this short interview in April 2021
Only got 8 games under his belt in 2021 after returning from an ACL
I did see some games on TV in 2021. It appeared he played forward but may have had some stints in the middle
At 190cm and 95kg watch out Bont:)

Kinda makes sense. End of the day we that this in the pipeline before Covid financially crippled everyone as well. They need to get something off the ground for next year, and it will have problems and teething issues. Good practice season.

I think it makes sense for an East Coast competition to have conference type system. I don't think everyone playing each other once makes a lot of sense, although in the future they do need to match the length of the AFL season more than likely. Could still see 'local' teams playing each other more than once, or AFL sides playing each other more than once, and running a more conference type finals system down the track.
Its an upside down world...whatever makes it work .....hope 7 Lions games in Vic.... But if not so be it.
