Poor tv ratings in Brisbane if it were on the main channel. In saying that for a top 2 clash it was a pretty ordinary game.

I wonder why the AFL seem to be reluctant to post crowds at Marvel after the game? The crowd at Marvel last night is still not officially listed by the AFL.
After all they own the stadium and should have the figures on hand even before the matches there finish!

It looked like a good crowd to me.

Interesting the Herald Sun ran a fans survey on why people are staying away and the highest reason at 18 percent was rule changes and over officiating. Coincidentally that was left out of gill' s survey, then he claims they are listening to the fans 😅. After 80 percent of his tenure being pretty good the last couple of years has shown arrogance that his time is up.

Carlton vs Fremantle will break Carltons highest home crowd against Fremantle at Marvel. Well over the 30k from 2019. Level one decked out bar Marvel seats.

Idkkk everyone's been complaining about umpiring forever, I really doubt that's why less people are going this year

That 18% is just people who'll complain about umpiring no matter what, no different to any other year

And so it should…

This maybe a slightly controversial or unpopular view however this crowd really should be pushing to between 35-40,000 today.

You can’t really look to history for Carlton because they’ve been so hopeless for 20 years so we really can’t draw a reasonable comparison to assess today’s crowd based on any previous clashes.

All we can do is assess the crowd as a Big 4 club playing basically a top 4 blockbuster match on a sunny Saturday afternoon against a low drawing interstate club like Fremantle. The same would hold against Port Power… On that score, pushing 40,000 pre covid is a must and certainly an aspiration in the current climate where strong match ups have actually drawn strong crowds in 2022. Eg: A record cried between Melbourne and Brisbane on Thursday night proves strong fixtures will draw high watermark attendances.

The previous attendances of a Big 4 club against the Dockers at Marvel (and clearly the MCG too) in strong fixtures has drawn 40,000+ on occasions.

Today’s 2nd Vs 5th on a sunny Winters day has very few excuses to prevent it totally smashing any previous record for a H & A fixture played in Melbourne between these two clubs.

Further to the post above, there’s no reason at all that today’s Rich/Geel game shouldn’t be a huge crowd.

It’s two teams in the eight and in form on a Saturday afternoon/twilight with plenty of time for Geelong based fans to get here and home again at a reasonable time, the weather is the best it’s been for weeks, and Richmond fans have had 3 weeks of byes and Thursday night games where they didn’t/couldn’t attend that should see them showing up in big numbers.

It just has to be 60k+.

On the other hand, the cheapest non GA ticket is $55, and since it's a Geelong home game, most Richmond members don't get access.

I'm expecting less than 50k. Which is pretty in line with past Geelong V Richmond matches.

I genuinely don’t know what else you could realistically ask for from a game to draw a big crowd.

Carlton vs Fremantle = 35,441

Pretty good. Freo’s 5th highest at Docklands. Their crowds max out in the low 40s in Melbourne.

Spot on.
I remember drunks at the footy 40 years ago saying they don't go to the footy anymore because of the umps (of course, they were there at that precise moment to utter those words).
It's beyond absurd for anyone to truly believe that there would be a massive drop off in footy attendance because of umps.
