All this trading up talk is fanciful.

Adelaide have never been successful at trading up meaningfully, especially in the first round.

The recruitment and list management team are not known to get these deals done.

youre right my money is on us trading down and getting an extra second rounder next year

Didn't we traded down for Carlton future first? we seem to trade down all the time and thats not what I'm talking about.

Trading up in the same draft for a first rounder, like Port has done, is not something or negotiators are known for. Basically what we'd need to do to get the Poo. It's not happening because we just don't get these deals done.

True that, although what did we give up to get the Melbourne 1st for the Dawson trade? - genuine question as I can't remember

Who do they think is taking them?

I've spent some time trying to work out where Phillipou could go and will he slip. If we ignore Ashcroft and the creation of a top of the draft pick for him, let's look at who might take who.
Pick 1 GWS is Cadman, it's why they traded up
Pick 2 & 3 likely Norf who are aware they are on the nose, thinking they take team mates Wardlaw and Tsatsas
Pick 4 Essendon, also on the nose, couldn't pass local Sheezel
Pick 5 Gold Coast, well who the eff knows what they might do, this is the spanner in working out an order, Phillipou could go here although they may be wary after Rankine defecting. Could they pull a shock like Jefferson or Busslinger? We're assuming they asked for this pick rather than our F1 so they must have some plan in mind, but what? Could they do a pick swap like 5 for Carlton's 10 & F2?
Pick 6 Hawthorn a serious threat for Phillipou or Humphrey
Pick 7 Geelong almost certainly Clarke, other teams now wary of picking Geelong Falcons I'd say
Pick 8 West Coast traded down to get WA boys, Ginbey here
Pick 9 Saints likely to take their NGA player McKenzie
Pick 10 Carlton the next Phillipou threat after GC & Hawks
Pick 11 Dogs ditto

So could see Phillipou going 5/6 or 10/11. At 5/6 he's gone we can't land him, at 10/11 I don't think we have enough goodies to tempt Carlton Or Dogs but I'm sure we'd try.

Has Ed Allen 194cm mid been discussed on here as a possibility for our first pick?

Problem with Dowling is that from what I've seen, his kicking can be hit or miss

Didn't look terrible. If they have other elite attributes that helps negate the kicking skills.
He looks like a natural inside midfielder, just would be aware of his frame adding weight and becoming slow ala Crouch.

might still be on the Rookie List because I could find no official AFL information on him being upgraded during last year’s draft (despite Hamish announcing it on our website). I subsequently found this on Zero Hanger, it states that it’s the official AFL released player lists for all clubs for 2022 (as at 1 Dec 2021) and it clearly identifies Cat A & B rookies. Of course Ben is shown on our senior list.

Hence I now eagerly wait for a contracted player to be spat out to enable a 2nd ND pick (as WCE just did with Zac Langdon
