Probably hard to do so, considering:

1) any team we would’ve traded with would’ve wanted a pick in this year’s draft back, as well as a future pick
2) not many teams seemed to want to trade out of the first round by all means necessary, this year (the only one that did got incredible pick value - Swans)
3) expected first round bid on MM complicated things more than usual, re: possessing picks around the late teens/early 20’s

Philipou was always going to be drafted ahead of Michalaney, so it's not like we couldn't have held it and tried to offer it as part of a deal.

You have have potential deals lined up we, but wait to pull the trigger until draft night.

Your second point also supports the idea that we undersold pick 5.
The dogs offered pick 11* and a future first for pick 4, if they were going after Humphrey then they probably still do that deal for pick 5 during the trade period.

Backs up my theory multiple clubs were keen on Bailey Humphrey and there was alot of behind the scenes work to get up to take him

Also that the top 11 or 12 picks were standouts compared to rest of the draft so it was going to be difficult to trade up even though alot of clubs tried

Also backs up the info mutineer received re the crows rating Phillipou and the fact they met with him multiple times in last 2-3 weeks pre draft (yes they rated Rankine priority )

But just like bidding on academy kids …. If you’re also offering up a future 1st round likely top 10 pick in a strong draft you need to be prepared that it might come off

Much more than just due diligence we truly rate Mattaes highly, club's in the bottom half of the ladder don't put future 1sts and 2nds on the table unless they think they have a chance at the player..

You are correct that the genuine interest we showed in trying to get a deal done so he could remain in Adelaide will not have been missed by Mattaes, his family and management mob headed up by Ned Costello for future reference.

Exactly what I’m doing , backing up Metric systems info which was spot on from start to finish

I also heard the same story re Phillipou from one of the analytics guys pre the draft and shared it privately with at least 3 posters … lined up exactly with what metric system was saying

Where in the article is that refuted aside from mentioning that we offered a F1?

Exactly one week before the draft Justin Reid called Dodoro and offered the F1 and NM F2 for pick 4. Dodoro said it was not enough. I'm not sure we had too many options up our sleeve after that.

I think I've provided enough info over the years to suggest that I do have some sources but some posters still feel the need to be snide, dismissive and condescending. The usual suspects.
