2km TT, 20m sprint, standing vertical jump, agility test etc. It's all p!ss and wind. Can they actually football? Like kick the ball? Makes me laugh watching games when the commentators validate some spud who can't kick to save his life with useless draft combine stats.
If it's all piss and wind why are the recruiters hanging off the rafters watching and taking notes?

Of course being able to football is more important but there's not a whole lot of poor athletes running around in the AFL nowadays especially of late with the emphasis placed on speed and how the game has sped up. Also a lot of emphasis on endurance, much more than in the past.

The number of players who come into the system not being able to kick and handball on both sides of their body is f*cking staggering.

Most of them can it's just that a lot can't execute on their non preferred leg under pressure.

Jordan Dawson is elite on his preferred but very very ordinary on his non preferred as we've seen a couple of times.

Barnett's a funny one. I would grab him at 23 (FWIW I think he'd be there at that pick), but it might be better business to try and grab a player like Magor (185cm mid/forward with power and v. good marking ability) or Burgiel (183cm mid with speed, solid contested game and versatility in all parts of the ground), and look at a Verrall or Knobel, if available as a rookie

23 and Michalaney are likely to be our only live selections

What are the chances Verrall actually gets to the rookie draft?

I’d feel uncomfortable taking a ruck in the top 15, but 23 is probably about right if you want one of the more athletic types.

If we didn’t take Barnett we’d have to be confident one will be available in the rookie draft because we desperately need one imo.

It's crazy they don't get taught to handball on the non preferred. I played in a bush league and our whole under 17s team got it drummed in.

I guess it isn't as important now that its basically ok to throw it across your body.

Pretty clear we targeted dual-sided players in last years draft. Have a look at Soligo’s and Taylor’s draft videos - hard to know which is their preferred foot.

I like Burgiel out of those , we could do with a > 186 though

The only 186+ that you might get around that mark are D'Aloia and Szybkowski, neither of which are what we really need

Reckon Ginbey will be gone, I reckon that's who WCE wants to trade down for (him and Hewett)

Any chance Brayden George gets through due to his knee?

It's a possibility. He's a heck of a talent (speed, power, goal nous etc), but most of his exposed form is up forward, so he might slide a bit

Wouldn't be surprised to see D'Aloia become this years Jack Graham. Seems like a similar player and maybe slips lower than he should for the same reasons.

Like the idea of drafting Verrall, just because it would be exciting to watch a ruckman jump at centre bounces

Is that allowed?

Spot on , Dowling even suits more than those 2 even though I don’t like his kick

Bit of a crows thing that. Laird, Sloane, Crouch, Smith, Seedsman, Keays

So whose the consensus to select at pick 23? How far could Phillipou slide ? Could we try to get back into the early teens and grab him if that happens?
