Easy for you to say. Who is he like?

Trade back option mate or with our First.

I would strongly consider him with our 1st pick depending on possible sliders.

Kid is very balanced, one touch, very good disposal both sides, penetrating kick, nice burst and big tank. Balanced mid, similar to Tom Sparrow

Really liking Mitch Szybkowski
A very good midfield option perhaps a reach at P10, I’d rather Busslinger or Keeler in our circumstances , and list management in mind.
Mitch is a hard working midfielder perhaps late Ist or early 2nd Is we’re he falls. If Austin selected him I’d be ok , not a flashy footballer , he’s reliable, determined and strong, good addition to team.

Intrigued with you looking at a predominantly inside type. You calling him balanced is a stretch on my understanding of the term. Do we need more inside types at the pointy end?

Aside from top racers Ashcroft, Wardlaw, Tsatas, Sheezel and Jhye Clark, Szybkowski joins Ginbey, Hewett, McKenzie and perhaps D’Aloia and a couple of others as inside first types in the top 10 mix. Humphrey as a mid/forward hybrid as well as similar Phillipou enter calculations at the top. The midfielders and a couple of hybrids will dominate the top 10 and are the strong part of the draft.

Where key forwards Cadman and Jefferson slot in will come down to club needs as much as projected ability. Similar for the best key defender in Busslinger. That’s 15 top 10 candidates theoretically. Balanced and/or hybrid Hollands and Hustwaite in the mix to go high, maybe add Hotton to that grouping. Defender/mids Cowan and Ryan have admirers, forwards Clarke and Konstanty, GWS academy Rowston, tall defenders Hayes and Weddle. Hybrid talls Northam, and the difficult to assess x-factor Keeler who could be top 10 or well into the second round. SA ruckman Barnett arguably the best of the crop and some think could play as a KPP. Some still like previously touted top 5 candidates Lemmey and Scully. WA ruck Broadbent was regarded a generational talent and underperformed in the interstate games, was reportedly carrying an injury.

I have certainly omitted some names a couple by choice and surely I have overlooked a name or two. It is a very even draft on projection, which is often a hallmark of a poorer one, this is my feeling, but time will tell. I am sure there are a couple of late gems, role players available like SA tall Foster and possibly KPD Davies from WA, I only saw one prominent game from a genuine winger in Darcy Edmends, and I am perplexed to have heard nothing since

Darcy Jones - Should still be available at pick 29- late second, was a goal kicking mid/forward at juniors and probably a small forward at AFL level because he is 175cm tall and tiny build wise... Has all the tools to be a player and would have been much higher up the draft order if he was taller...
We've already got too many short people on our list. Can't really see us taking another.

While not a pure outside type, what i like about Mitch Szybkowski is that while he can win his own pill, I don't see him as a pure inside player and his disposal is more that of a balanced mid

Humphrey is a bull, but just don't trust his disposal in front of goal or around the ground

Same goes with Hollands and Hewett, too inconsistent by foot

If Busslinger slides to our pick, I would take him, then look for outside types with later picks

Other talls I like at our picks, Jefferson, Hayes, Barnett, Scaife, Knobel, Northam, Foster, Van Es, Petric, Tregenza-Cashell, Grant

Edmends is criminally underrated, composed, uses the ball well, I would take him with a 2nd. Others I like in non-talls, Hotton, Long, Jones, Binns

Weddle a real watch, if he grows a little, comes right into contention as a great KPD option

I remain surprised at you questioning Hollands’ disposal. Not my viewing and has consensus among “experts” as one of the best distributors in the group. Have seen him assessed as “the best” in one prominent “Phantom”.

Way better than Hewett, but still too rushed. Most of that can be cleaned up, I just don't see it as elite and or dangerous.

Not surprised he now drifting in rankings

My kingdom for a mid/forward with the ferocious attack on the ball, the pace and the game sense of Zac Bailey.
Look no further - I present to you Seth Campbell from Tasmania.

From the limited vision of him, looks very much a Bayley Fritsch type. Rookie Central describe him as a high half forward with a great work ethic, speed to burn and good finishing skills. Knows where the goals are too. Still only 17yo, and kicked a lazy 10 goals in just his 3rd senior game at state league level a few weeks back for Nth Launceston.

He won the NAB boys player of the week earlier this year playing for the Tassie Devils.....six goals from 32 disposals, 11 marks and nine inside 50s. Has been invited to the Draft Combine, so worth keeping an eye on...could be a smoky.

Imagine if we ended up with Jedd Busslinger and Seth Campbell.....sounds more like a couple of gunslingers from the old wild west!!!

Agreed

Agreed Hollands & Fletcher (Lions attached) are the two best outside mound type midfielder options.
Hollands I’d be very happy with too, and yes yr correct regarding Szybkowski he’s a strong midfielder type , well balanced , hard working mid, either lad would a very good acquisition for the club.

Her is a speculative one.

Ziggy Toledo Glasman Dandenong Stingrays has kicked @ least 2 goals in all NAB games. 194cm 3rd fwd. Potentially fills the Gunston, Fritsch, Waite hole
See how he goes, this week, will be a test
He is the type I would pick in the 4th round....good football brain, great below his knees, marking needs work.
It is whether his 10 to 15 possession at U19s translates to AFL.
My point is he is the type of risk we need to take.

The Dude. Nickname writes itself.

This is good because I'm planning to red card 1000 butchered spellings per day.

Hewett's disposal was very good playing for WA against Victoria, there does not appear to be apparent weakness in that area.

Last nights game showed we are lacking hard running half forwards who can hit the scoreboard (Bailey, Cameron, McCarthy, Bolton, Martin, Rioli) and a Ruck/Forward (imagine Sos having to ruck the entire game if we played one of TDk and Pitto and they got injured early). We also have a well documented KPP depth issue we need to address through both the draft and trade week.

IMO we should do everything we can to trade up to get Sheezel like offering a future first which is what Melbourne did in 2018 to get Jackson as he would be perfect for our needs.

If no clubs above us in the draft are prepared to deal then we hold our first and take Busslinger, Philipou or Weddle in that order of preference depending on who is still available at our pick.

Brayden George is also someone I like as he fits our needs but he did his knee which means he could still be on the boards at our second pick. That said if Keeler is still available at our second pick then we should take him regardless.

Melbourne got Jackson at 3 because they finished 17th that year.

They traded their future 1st to get Pickett.

Out of curiosity to you and other regular draft watches, do you ever look back a year or two after and see how your player assessments stack up at AFL level?

Like a self assessment to see if you are being too harsh or focusing on negatives more than positives, or just to see if the same issues you saw at the lower level are the same in the AFL.

All the time. Generally I do it 4 years after a draft
