What I can’t work out is why on earth were you not prepared for it…that’s the ridiculous part. It was a free hit for us bid on a player with no go home factor. Why wouldn’t you trade the pick 15 up during the pick swaps you have a number of picks

This was a draft in which the top 10 teams didnt want to trade down the giants couldnt have got up.
Maybe they should have traded 15 and 18 out to next year though and tried to trade back in after a bid.

They could have traded the pick though you are given a few minutes. It seems they were unprepared for any bid in the first round

Even if they traded 17 (say to hawks for futures) the bid would have come off 21 so they still would have lost that. They would have had to trade all of 17 21 and 22 out to avoid being hit how they were.

Your second option is the one it’s what Adelaide have done.

To be fair adelaide only had to trade one pick out not three so the giants were in a tougher spot there.

I have no doubt it was genuine & Sydney rate MM as a 1st rounder.

No issue for us as we had plenty of late pick points after trading out our 2nd for North's future 2nd.

GWS on the other hand... can't recall the next pick being used for matching before.... no wonder McCartney looked pissed off!
GWS were completely unprepared. Should have had a trade back of pick 17 plus 2023 pick ready to go with a couple of teams.

Swans trolled them big time, stuffed up their draft even more by taking Konstanty.

If you look at the draft hand GWS held after trade period, they have torched it.

Kudos to the Swans box, completely owned GWS tonight, and gave us a slap as well as Dawson payback

Essendon should trade 25 and their F3 for GWS 21 to get a player in before Davey Jnr bid.
Not sure anyone bids before us now.

At least you were smart you traded pick 22 out as a bid for your one was always in that vague range.

That wasn't Dawson payback. We 100% had our eye on the kid and this was known before tonight. Kinnear even hinted at it in one of his interviews.

Probably been pointed out already but I just realised Phillipou said he was built for the big stage, big crowds etc, and he has just been drafted by St Kilda.

Ego would have taken a hit

If we take Hustwaite, and Munkara goes undrafted then we finish second in this draft.

Sydney have already won it.
