Preview of today’s U18 games.

Got smashed by VM today.
Only blokes for us that stood up were Jakob Ryan, Sadler, Phillipou.
Foster and Keeler battled manfully in conditions not condusive to big men.

Best for Vics (quite a few ineligible being F/S or underage, so I omitted them - Davey, Caddy, Watson, Ashcroft, etc) were Hayes, Edmund, Hotton, O'Keefe, Pascu.

Only watched the first half plus a few minutes in the 4th of the vic m v Sa game.

I can’t see why we wouldn’t take the punt on Hayes. Has plenty to like, reads the ball. Works hard. Kicks well enough. Can go in and take a mark for a twig. Will take a while to build that body though.

Weddle has really piqued my interest these champs. For a 193cm player he has some real speed off the mark, good hands and just looks a footballer. Maybe a 193cm defender isn’t as big a need as a chb but if Weddle is available at a reasonable pick I would jump at the chance. We still need defenders and he looks a likely suspect.

Bennier is also interesting. I didn’t pay attention to him before the champs, but there’s enough there to think he’s worth a punt with a rookie pick if he’s there. Good height and looks quick enough to my eye.

I’m 100% sold on keeler. He should go top 10, and if he slips someone is getting a bargain. The concern with talls sometimes is that they can’t get in the game sometimes if their 1 wood is taken away from them. Keeler just has a full kit to choose from. Can lead and mark with a nice little burst and those long arms in front. Mark over head, but is also very dangerous around play. Moves like a lanky wingman in general play and can kick goals on the move and swoop on loose balls. Is genuinely competitive in the ruck.

Didn’t get a chance to watch the wa game but not at all surprising to hear Clark was a machine again. Just put money on him being in the bests, if anyone is ever dumb enough to offer that.

I watched most of the WA vs Country game. Fairly awful spectacle to be honest. WA has no forward line.

Hollands was everywhere and clearly best on ground. I really like his ball use.

Cadman, Hewett and Ginbey all have some really appealing traits but hard to take much from a game like that.

Cautionary note from yesterdays SA vs VM is that the gap between SANFL U18s/WAFL and the Vic leagues has never been bigger. Assessment of SANFL performance needs to be heavily weighted with this in mind. It might of been a bad day , but I feel it is more that just that.

Going to get a gun in the top 10 and hopefully Amon compo gets us a nice surprise not many free agents available.

SA kids get overrated early every year and usually come back to where they should be after champs and combine.

If we can nab one of the big name mids with our first then we can look at more of a general mid outside of that. Kobe Ryan would be great, Hollands would be great, Mackenzie would be great. D'Aloia I reckon slips through to a more mid range pick.

That pick for Karlos could land us Lemmey at this stage.
Small sample but really like Cadman over Lemmey, although reckon Cadman moves into top 10 , with Lemmey drifting slightly out of ten. Cadman looks alot like a poor mans Jeremy Cameron , mobile, athletic, lanky loping stride , good in the air, just a bit hit and miss with set shot.

In draft class renowned for its array of versatile, hybrid prospects, two emerging key forwards have put themselves in first-round draft calculations.

GWV Rebels 194cm goalkicker Aaron Cadman continued his excellent national championships campaign on Sunday, booting 3.3 from 19 disposals and eight marks (two contested) in Vic Country’s 43-point win over Western Australia at GMHBA Stadium.

AFL National Talent Ambassador Kevin Sheehan told Fox Footy Cadman was “a lot like Jeremy Cameron” – and the fact he was able to win so much of the ball up the field, as well as be a constant scoreboard threat, justified the talent guru’s call.

“He’s a mobile left-footer and has that laconic look about him, but he’s quick on the lead, strong overhead and is a thumping kick for goal on that preferred left boot,” Sheehan told Fox Footy.

“If he can end up half as good as Jeremy Cameron, he’ll be a fair player … He’s on the right pathway with what he’s been able to show this year. He’s a very dangerous player.”

AFL draft expert Mick Ablett added: “He’s just a big body to get around when he positions himself like that and sticks his backside back into the defender to create separation.”

Athletic 195cm Oakleigh Chargers forward Matt Jefferson was also prominent on Sunday, booting three goals for Vic Metro against South Australia to take his carnival tally to 12 from three games.

Cadman and Jefferson have overtaken South Australia’s Harry Lemmey as the best key-position forward prospects in the draft class, with Lemmey struggling to boost his chances at national level after entering the year as a possible Pick 1 contender.
