Barkla has to be a decent chance to be a category b rookie. He didn't look out of his depth at state level. Hopefully he plays well at sanfl level.
(If the rules are still the same and lists are 38+4+Cat B's) Filling up a cat B rookie list is the best chance we have to limit the number of SANFL top ups we have to play each week. So would be surprised if we didn't try and boost our list size through that method.

Jim Michalanney missed around 40 games across 1980 and 81, only played 4 games in his debut season (1974), 14 in 1975 and played in the Ardath Cup winning team in 1978.

His figure is almost certainly inflated by night competition games which were counted as senior games by the sanfl.

Plan B: he was born in the Middle East, right?

I'd go Phillipou with our first pick tbh.

Darcy Jones could also play small forward. I'd like one of the Kostanty or Jones for the small forward position. He's not played there much through the championships but I think he's a good chance to play in that position between now and season's end.

The reason why I wouldn't go Busslinger with our first pick is because I think we can and should prize Brennan Cox from Freo back home. And then draft Lewis Hayes and develop him. Just a personal choice

If we got Phillipou at our first and Hayes at end of first I'd be rapt. I'd be surprised if Phillipou gets passed the Crows. He looks to have massive upside.

Round 14 NAB league scouting notes.

Probably should be paying more attention to Jhye Clark vs Mattaes Phillipou. We may have a chance of choosing one or the other.

This is Matt Rendell talking with Kimbies Dillon, so make of it what you will...

“With Gray probably close to retirement, Rozee playing in the midfield and Motlop retiring, their small forwards have gone from a big group to virtually none overnight.

“That’s their big issue, small forwards. Can they get Fantasia up?

“I’d be trying to find another one. Most of the good clubs have got a couple there.

“The rest of the balance of their team looks great to me.”

The Run Home co-host Kym Dillon indicated that a small forward at this year’s draft is well within the sights of Port, but stopped short of naming who they may be interested in.

“I’m hearing they’ve got their eyes on someone in the upcoming draft in terms of a small forward,” he added.

Leading No.1 pick contender Will Ashcroft has informed Brisbane he has nominated the Lions as a father-son and follow in the footsteps of dad Marcus. Big result for Brisbane… his decision had been somewhat up in the air until now

Lock him in for pick 1 as well. North should have learned the lesson this year that a lot of extra pressure comes with that pick.

I would like to try and take advantage of Brisbane needing points for Ashcroft
Offer our future 1st ( we should make top 8 so around the pick 12 to 18) for gold coasts 3 2nd round picks. At the moment 25 32 and 33. Give Brisbane pick 25 33 and our 3rd rounder pick 49 for there 1st rounder currently pick 16

Gold Coast get future 1st rounder
Lose 25,32,33
Port lose future 1st rounder, pick 49
gain brisbanes 1st rounder pick 32
Brisbane lose 1st rounder gain 3 picks worth more so they can have the points for Ashcroft

I'd do the maths with us finishing bottom 4.
We are far more likely to go down than up.

Lemmey 16 disposals without impacting the scoreboard 8 marks a couple of inside 50s
Scully 2.1 from 10 disposals 6 marks and a couple of inside 50s.

Meanwhile Billy Dowling. 4.3 from 43 disposals with 7 inside 50s is probably noteworthy.

The real negative as far as Port is concerned if the Crows give up their 1st round pick to the Gold Coast in return for Rankine is the likelihood Gold Coast will use it on Busslinger.
or Hayes if Busslinger is gone beforehand.
If we are looking for the most likely tall defenders with our 1st it’s back to square one.

Of course current form could see the Crows above us at the end of the year but if they don’t get there [emoji848]
