I haven't seen the current Phillipou play, but assuming he is descended from the West Torrens (Peter) and WWT (Sam) family, he will probably need to be a fair bit better than either of them to be genuine AFL quality.

Peter was a reasonably good on baller type in a better era of the sanfl but was a level below the real good players of the day ( he was right up there in the sniping caper though :moustache:), and if Sam couldn't mark the ball he struggled to have much, if any impact at all, plus he couldn't run out of sight on a dark night.
Not always fair to compare the earlier generation…… yes you could look at Peter and Sam Phillipou and think they wouldn’t cut the mustard in the AFL and you’d probably be right. But Craig Ebert and Mark Pavlich would’ve more than likely not made the grade at AFL……. but Brad and Matthew were outstanding AFL players. So to be honest you need to accept that Mattaes Phillipou was brought up in a Football Family but then just see how good young Mattaes Phillipou is in his own right. I mean they’re plenty of top AFL footballers whose father’s were just handy bush or amateur footballers……. For the record I really like the look of Mattaes Phillipou.

Grundy is only a cheap trade for a team that is taking most of his contract off of Collingwood. The more salary Collingwood is paying the more they would expect in return.
Yeah, I'm not a big wrap for Grundy. I still have hope for Hayes and I think Teakle will throw himself into the preseason so I have high hopes for him. With another preseasons ruck work into Finlayson and Dixon as second rucks I think we might be ok. Thats not taking into account the progress Lord and Visentini might make too.

Take Shaun and Peter Burgoyne. Also Warren Tredrea and Jonathan Brown although their fathers were different kind of players...

I‘m a casual draft watcher at best so take this with a grain of salt. I‘ve seen Lemmey play 3 times this year and he’s shown absolutely no AFL traits in those games. If it wasn’t for BigFooty I’d have said he’s a rookie list prospect. He gets to less contests as a forward than Darcy Fogarty so I can’t help but think he needs to play down back and have the ball come to him.

As I said, my opinion shouldn’t carry much weight and I’m sure he’s played much better games that I haven‘t seen. I just wouldn’t get much excitement from us drafting him.
I would have to agree in that he does not look like a natural forward. I will be disappointed if we use the Amon compo to get him.

Just watching Busslinger.

Every side needs Busslinger. You might want someone else but you need Busslinger.

In a perfect world you end up with Busslinger and a top eight mid in this draft which is why I'm sure Gold Coast pick him with the Crows pick and then a mid.

I’m still hopeful we take him if he’s available at our pick. Much bigger priority then a midfielder which hopefully we get a slider with the Amon compo.

His kicking worries me tbh. Kinda like a combo of Jonas and DBJ.

I'm still taking Phillipou if he's available at our pick

A lot of Crows fans on their board and general draft board are now playing down the talent of Phillipou and saying he's got off-field issues.

I'm sure that's got nothing to do with the fact that he and his family are at Port fans and they'd like him to end up with us

To them that is an off field issue

Cal Twomey now has Phillipou at 11 and Busslinger at 13.

Humphrey seems to have firmed into a top 10 pick, Cadma to 5 and Ginbey is up to 8.

Possible Amon comp picks Hayes is at 19, Konstanty 20 and Hotton up to 21.

Keeler at 29, Darcy Jones 30. No Lemmey or D'Aloia.

If it plays out that way our pick at 9 would be very interesting.

Brisbane are likely to trade that pick 14 out given the Ashcroft bid. Would we be able to trade back into the first round with the Amon compo and 52&56?

I think Brisbane get much better offers. 52&56 in this draft are nigh on zero value outside of points if someone needs them but they are low point value picks. I don't see this draft going past 60 live picks.

I think Amon gets you a second round compo which would currently be pick 27. After a compo pick to north and potentially a couple of end of first round compo picks that's pick 30. You aren't trading into the first round with that without giving up next years second with it and then it might get you one of the swans picks. Swans are likely happy to take 2 first rounders to the draft.

Also at this time of year Twomey knows **** all. He's really only relevant in the days leading up to the draft.

(apologies for the intrusion I think this was the main draft board thread)

Best of luck in the draft and offseason.

Damn I was hoping Ginbey would be available at the Amon compo pick. Not surprised to see him rise though.

Based on that form guide we’ll have a choice of Busslinger, Phillipou or Hewett. Happy days.

Way things are panning out

Busslinger with our 1st
Pou with our 2nd
Lemmey with our 3rd

I'd actually be interested in trading up our 2nd pick if this Pou garbage actually gets traction.

Next year's 1st and our 2nd someone will bite.
We don't have a 2nd rounder yet.

Unless you're already accounting for amons compo

What is this Phillipou nonsense though? I have heard nothing but good things about him other than from Crowd fans on BF

Crows fans have been non specific about any particular instance but it sounds like they're trying to justify trading the pick they could have used on him. That and a few weeks out with injury suddenly there's talk he's outside the top 10.

Just to give you an update on his situation he has a minor ankle at the moment but he is still restricted by the back injury that showed up in the champs. It's the only reason I see him sliding. He has been outside the top 5 ranked players all year however if he was a week older he'd be one of the top 3 prospects for next year. Next years draft is very strong at the top it's just Phillipou is that young this year. If he gets the all clear on his back and slides into that 6-15 bracket I think some club gets a future superstar. For West Coast I hope we trade down and pick him up, If not and I was a port supporter I would absolutely be hoping he is there for your pick.

To me one of only 3 players that projects as a generational talent at the next level (most generational talents never get close to their ceiling for a multitude of reasons)

Of course they are. Typically their self entitled modus operandi.

Haha yeah I know that he's been injured and I've been following his year closely. Was more unsure about the rumours of his attitude or behaviour or some BS that crows fans have stirred up. Think if you're injured this time of the year, you tend to slide back because of recency bias. He's the youngest draftee this year so technically has a year more of development to go
