Peel Thunder and South Fremantle advanced in week one of the WAFL Colts finals series. We noted some of the top performers from either win.

Will be a beast as a midfielder as he matures. Be a handy forward target too.

I don't think we need pick 5 tbh.

We'll have pick 9 after the Ashcroft bid.

Ashcroft, Wardlaw, Tsatas, Sheezel, Cadman, Clark, Busslinger, McKenzie, Hunphrey and possibly even Ginbey are above Phillipou atm. Could be due to recency bias but Phillipou not playing may play into our hands.

My preference would be one of Phillipou or Humphrey. I can also see Clark sliding which might make draft night interesting

He is a class above, powerful athlete, line breaking long penetrating kick. Poise. All the things I love in football. A bit different to Rozee, Butters and Wines giving us a great mix through the midfield.

I'm also a big Hewitt fan would be rapt with either Hewitt or Phillipou

I dont see any need to trade up. Its very possible we have a choice of Phillipou, Hewett and Busslinger at our pick. I dont see how we lose. I just think Phillipou shows some glimpses of being an absolutely elite game changer.

Looks like a pretty even draft this year, especially through the top 10-12 picks. Prefacing this by saying I have no expertise at all, it looks like the absolute top end is pretty weak.

Wardlaw, Tsatas, Sheezel, Cadman don't strike me as top 5 picks.

Is there any concern with Phillipou being the one good South Australian? Potentially spent the year beating up on sub standard opposition?

Humphrey's gets extra points on the leadership qualities. Very strong character and it gets talked up.

100% agree with you.

Busslinger likely will get snapped up by Suns but regardless, I'm not sure he's the guy we need. I don't see him as the shutdown defender like Jeremy McGovern, Sam Taylor or Steven May type which is what we need. I think he'll become more of a Jordan Ridley or Granger-Barrass who read the play and intercept. We have one of the best at doing that in Aliir so I'm opting to pass on Busslinger even if he's there at ours. Will be a good play, not the player we need.

Just reading the tea leaves and a general feeling.

Its becoming clear what the club is after:
1) Another genuine A-grade mid (linked to Dunkley)
2) Quality small forward who applies pressure (linked to Rioli)
3) KPD (linked to McKay) - although this one has cooled.

I think Rioli is the most likely of the above. If we can't address all these needs through trades we might address through the draft targeting a mid and KPD.
