Knightmare power rankings. Phillipou at #2. Busslinger at #8, Humphrey at #10.

AFL Draft Power Rankings: Surprise at No. 2, Bolters make their move
If we want Dunkley we need to trade a first rounder.
If we want Junior we need to trade the equivalent of a second rounder.

That mean we will probable split our first two picks. Lot’s of clubs will be interested in swapping picks this year.
I will list some examples and remember, Brisbane need 3,000 point to cover their first f/son selection, so they will be looking to trade Pick 13.

Let say we get Pick 19 for Amon, we could flip 19, 52 & 56 (points 945 + 246 + 194)= 1,285 to say, Brisbane, picks 31 & 44 (968 + 362 points) = 1,330
Pick 31 to West Coast for Junior and 44 for us to pick a late SA player.

Another thought is would the Dogs trade Pick 8 and say, Fredericks Dunkley for their pick 11 (who then trade both, 8 + Fredie to Freo for Lobbe).
Or replace Bonner for Fredericks (who stays at the Dogs).

Casey Voss at #14 is literally the single worst piece of draft journalism I've ever seen. What an idiot.

I didn't look that far down. Voss didn't even get a look in for the mid season draft.

Honestly, the more I see vision of the players who will be available around our pick, the more comfortable I become in giving up Pick 8 for Dunkley if he chooses us.

There’s something to be said about just hitting our weakest list area all at once too.

There’s the potential to just hit up a bunch of key defenders, busslinger, Hayes , Weddle (3rd tall) and a couple of other prospects, small forwards late / rookie.

Would make our team look very complete having addressed that issue, they all come on in similar age bracket to our core.

Excluding Ashcroft who won't be available to us:

Wardlaw
Tsatas
Sheezel
Phillipou
Busslinger

Are the guys I'd be at least somewhat disappointed if we missed out on for Dunkley. If all are gone by our pick, which I expect they will be, then 8 (which will turn into 9 after the Ashcroft bid) for Dunkley is fine.
Add Humphrey to that list too.

I'm more inclined to take pick 8 to the draft with how much success we've had on draft night compared to the trade table

I think KM is on the money with Pou and Sheezel and Tsatas is possibly the one there should be a really big watch on.

Sheezel getting pumped as at the very top end is a worry for what is being essentially a half forward at afl level is a worry. Loved him at 8-10 but at 2-3 I think you look at a genuine mid or KDF.

The closer you look at Pou the more you find to like really happy to land him.

Tsatas has explosive power that will transfer to AFL level. The Hawks take him or Pou or Humphrey and get a better outcome than whoever takes Sheezel.

CLUBS EYEING 2023 TALENT

CLUBS will look to trade out of this year's draft and invest picks in the 2023 crop with a bumper group looming.

Recruiters are buoyed by the under-17 prospects who have starred at different levels across the country this year, so much so that many clubs will see if they can swap picks in this year's draft for future selections in the 2023 intake.

There is genuine star quality at the top end of this year's draft pool and then an evenness of names beyond that which some scouts feel will trigger clubs to try and bank extra selections in the draft next year.

A host of bottom-aged players have impressed across this season, with Bendigo Pioneers youngster Harley Reid shaping as the early No.1 pick favourite for next year. Many recruiters would view him as a top-five pick in this year's draft if available.

Nick Watson, Zane Duursma, Ashton Moir, Darcy Wilson, Jed Walter, Mitch Edwards, Nate Caddy, Colby McKercher and Archer Reid are among some of the other exciting talents to have impressed this season a year out from being draft eligible.

The capacity for this year's group to feature at under-18 level prior to their draft seasons has also lifted hopes for next year's draft class, given the past two draft pools had opportunities wiped out by COVID-19.

Just reading the tea leaves and a general feeling.

Its becoming clear what the club is after:
1) Another genuine A-grade mid (linked to Dunkley)
2) Quality small forward who applies pressure (linked to Rioli)
3) KPD (linked to McKay) - although this one has cooled.

I think Rioli is the most likely of the above. If we can't address all these needs through trades we might address through the draft targeting a mid and KPD.
If Dunkley selected us, it is no brainer to trade him in for a first round pick.

We may be able to turn Pick 8 into two first rounders, or the Dogs may be interested in our first rounder for next year.

Richmond need high picks for GWS trades: how about trade our Pick 8 for picks 19 & 30 (948 + 629 points) from Richmond.
Ditto to Sydney, our pick 8 for their 17 & 34 (1,025 + 542 points)

In fairness Baily Humphrey would have swamped them but for injury and that says plenty about Baily but Lachlan Cowan is well worth a look as well as Taj Campbell-Farrell.

The Morrish Medal is an award that carries currency as far as picking a player who is going to make it.

Amon compo and future 2nd should get it done

Sheezel has midfield competence. He’ll be wingard type fwd/mid eventually

How would his draft year compared to say Ben Ainsworth or Jack Billings?

Better than Ainsworth.

Billings only played one NAB game in his draft year as he was playing school footy

Add Hollands to the list, but yes there are (from my perspective) 7 good kids, great prospects in this draft. We have pick 8. We need one bolter in Clarke or Humphries to get something of real quality.

Thoughts on Barnett?
I actually like the look of Barnett. His biggest attribute seems to be the around the ground work but I've been impressed by some of his games so far. Consistency is what he needs to work on but if we trade Hayes, I'd be going for Barnett with our Amon compo (assuming it's a 2nd rounder).

Pick up one of Jaidon Magor, Charlie Clarke, Darcy Jones or Blake Drury (in order of preference) using the Hayes pick (which I assume to be 3rd round) and then James Van Es using the 3rd rounder we got from Swans.

Assuming we take Phillipou or Humphrey with our first, we'd get a Midfielder, Ruck, Small forward and KPD sorted in this draft.

This is all of course in hope that we don't land Dunkley and Rioli. A man is allowed to dream!
