I really don't want a small forward with our first pick hopefully we get Pickett at the end of next yr.

Some dude called Ablett in the Herald Sun reckons this is who Port Adelaide "should be targeting". Rookie Me Central has Hustwaite in the 15-30 range, so not much chance of that happening. Noah Long is (yet another) small mid-forward...

PORT ADELAIDE
Picks:
33, 60

Mick Ablett says: The departure of Robbie Gray is big, however the acquisition
of Junior Rioli still gives them a genuine small forward threat. Some additions
through the midfield — with a focus on speed — and most certainly some
reinforcements in the key defenders department will assist the Power to return
to their best.

Draft Prediction: Look no further than Henry Hustwaite. A 195cm, strong body
that has also spent a lot of time in the midfield, Hustwaite can hold down a half-
back role with ease. A tidy left-foot kick, he also provides a strong aerial presence. Noah Long is another option. He is a smart midfielder-forward who is a genuine goalkicking threat.

Better version of Drew

He has NFI.

I'm surprised by so many suggestions of recruiting players that are not KPDs. I thought KPDs were our weakest link that needs to be addressed?

Admittedly if we do draft some young KPDs they probably won't be playing for 2 or 3 years as they develop so they won't address the 'now'.

Spot on. We would be under 185cm AFL premiers.

At the end of the season, Small Forwards were the clear weakest spot in our side, because we had none left. Rioli helps. Evans might help. But we are still wafer thin there.

At least a KPD group of Clurey, Allir, Jonas & Mckenzie is already AFL standard with Pasini coming through, Finlayson as a stop gap, Burton can play taller if need be.

We definitely need a KPD, but whether thats with our first pick, or later picks, we'll find out.

No one is disputing our need for a KPD's , the issue is whether there is anyone worth the value of 33 in this draft. At 33 the next best player available probably still applies.

We probably need to draft/recruit and develop 3 young KPDs fairky quickly as Jonas and McKenzie are almost done.

We recruited Rioli and Evans as small forwards so at least that's something for there but we've done nothing in the KPD stakes but media analysts are still suggesting we draft someone thats not a KPD.

Maybe the club has its eye on poaching 1 or 2 from other clubs in the next year or so.

Have you already put a line through Fantasia? If he plays more then 12 games I’ll take that as a small victory.

How do you think JHF & Butters will be used next year, both are more then capable of playing a small Fwd role?

I don't think it does in what is being called a weak and shallow draft what will end up at least 36 🤷 pick a tall farken lol.

How do we define the next best player.......do we base it on the generally regarded next best player or do we base it on the next best player for our needs?

I'll stand corrected but I'm pretty sure Cadman isn't in the best top 5 players rated generally but he certainly is the best player for GWSs needs.

I beleive we generally draft off our talent list, then try and attract players through trade/FA for need.

Fantasia, after this year, is entirely forgettable.

We have players that can play forward, but they aren't forwards. Neither JHF or Butters are capable of kicking 30+ goals.

Long is a good footballer. I'd be alright if we got him

Knightmare had Long being selected ahead of Charlie Clarke is his phantom draft and I really liked Clarke's highlights package.

Long's year reads like Robbie Gray's draft year.

When you have as many first rounders as gws has you can draft more readily for needs.

Pick 84 has become 72 as the AFL eliminated picks that would mean clubs have a max 38 on their main list.

After we cut Fredrick and Williams we had 33 on the main list and 4 on the rookie.

Evans DFA listing took it to 34, so as we only have 3 picks per the list in linked AFL website article, its confirmation Pasini has been elevated to the main list, despite no announcement, which will make the main 38 players if we use pick 72.

Potentially 83 players could be drafted but the consensus seems to be 55-60, maybe even as low as 50.

So if Pasini is officially off then we have 3 rookies.

We can only have 38 + 4 rookies or 37 + 5 and as we said we will re rookie Williams that gets us to 4.

We might not use 72 unless something changes, like someone bids on Barkla after pick 40 and after pick 60 (maybe).

I watched the second half of vic country and metro. Main thoughts were Weddle isn't making it to our pick. Van Es had a mare. Noah Long is really growing on me. There's a little bit of Robbie Gray there. Id be happy taking him at 33ish.
