Kevin (Shifter) Sheehan doesn't have Keeler, Lemmey, Van Es, Phillips or Dowling in his top 40. Keeler, Van Es and Lemmey as talls have a higher ceiling than Phillips, who as a 23 year old, is close to his peak already. I'm not convinced that Phillips as a zone off and pick off the interception defender will really work at AFL and more particularly for us. We need a strong one on one defender. Van ES apparently is strong one on one.
I tend to agree 18yr old KPPs please .

We need a proper kpd. Someone who can be told "your ******* job is to shut down Hawkins... I don't care how... Punch him in the ******* head if ya have to but I don't want him getting a ******* goal!

Buy one. Leave enough room in the cap for a God Father offer. We are set up everywhere else earmark the most likely available in a couple of years and start getting into his ear now.

I’d have no problem in drafting Ryan if he fell to us. Gilbee is another that I can see us drafting. We need guys who can push back from the wing and fill holes. I’d love Clarke but I think he’s a pipe dream.

I’ve said it before - your first pick has to be a slam dunk. We’ve ensured our first pick is a slam dunk by getting Horne-Francis. Who we pick at 33 needs to be an AFL player and not some bullshit reach because the perception is we need a key defender if we want this trade/draft period to be a success. Those sorts of players are who you pick late. And the guys who make it in the AFL are the guys with endurance and a high work ethic. The guy who would be awesome is Hayes but there’s no chance of that.

What a fizzer this draft is going to be for the talls then. It was supposed to be the draft for a shitload of decent talls.

Saturday night

I was hoping he would drop it tomorrow, Saturday night feels like a dead zone. Oh well, Saturday it is.

We have other rookie options for the ruck:

Tom Scully 202cm/89kg Key Forward/Ruck West Adelaide
Will Verrall 200cm/92kg Ruckman South Adelaide
Oscar Steene 201cm/95kg Ruckman West Adelaide
Darcy Minchella 197cm/76kg Key Defender/Ruckman West Adelaide
Ryan Eyers 197cm/82cm Key Forward/Ruck Murray Bushrangers

We actually have no shortage of ruck options at present and we can probably address future concerns next year. ie. Vigo Visentini, Dantes little brother who looks good on limited games for the Dragons on the season just finished. Tap work has been called elite by some watchers listed at 199cms but has been 199cms for a couple of years looks a fair bit taller. There’s other options out there but I think we should and probably will be keeping an eye on him.

Don’t see any logic in going after another ruck. We have 3 on our list spread across a good age profile and multiple players who can play second ruck.

Even if it’s a rookie pick it should be on another stab at a KPD to develop.

Still firmly of the belief we need to take 2 KPD across the draft and rookie draft to improve our odds of one of them developing into an AFL level defender. Preferably one a mature ager (Phillips) who could step straight up.

No matter who we add around the park we won’t improve as a team until our key defensive stocks are addressed and we can’t wait another 12 months.

There seems to be a few rucks who have also played KPP.

Id be keen on one of those late to try and turn into a tall KPD.

Take two KPD with the selections in the Draft, take another KPD in the Rookie draft. Take a Ruckman in the Rookie draft if Broadbent, Scully and Verall all make it through. Take another Small Forward/Midfielder don’t care and Barkla as CatB.

Ideal Draft Haul
33 - Lemmy
60 - Van Es
Rookie 1 - Phillips
Rookie 2 - Verall
Rookie 3 - Ryan
Rookie 4 - Williams
NGA - Barkla

But....we only have 3 spots! Plus Williams rookies and Barkla category b.

I really don’t understand the point of rookieing Williams now.

He’s shown he isn’t able to get up to AFL standard in however many years he’s been on the list. We have a number of small forwards now so don’t need him there or down back and I can’t see him making the side at any point next year. Why waste another year of development and a list spot that could be spent elsewhere only to then likely be delisted again.

Williams has a contract! If he gets fit he has to have some chance of making it.

I would have delisted mcentee and traded dbj instead of giving him a hinkley contract.
