List Mgmt. 2022 AFL Draft

Our first pick will be pick 7 or 8. There was no point going hard against the Bombers. Pick could've ended up as high as 4 if we lost our final two games. Should still be someone really good left at 7 or 8 though.

Nah still likely Mattaes Phillipou is there and that’s a win.

Hawks and Bombers not taking chances on their draft positions though. We need a marble system to take the certainty out of the draft order.

With Asahcroft likely to go at pick 1, we will end up with pick 8 or 9.

Ashcroft
Sheezel
Wardlaw
Tsatas
Clark
Busslinger
Cadman
Phillipou

Mckenzie
Hewett - not sure why he isn't ranked higher
Humprey = the bolter...who knows how high he goes?

Gold coast would likely take Hollands who looks very good.

We seem to be in a safe spot for a good player with our first pick.

I don’t think we can pass on Busslinger if he is available. He’s a key position sized Jordan Ridley. Probably not our answer to playing on Tom Hawkins types but a massive need nonetheless.

Phillipou is the standout SA option and has huge upside. I liken him to Dayne Beams because his hands are so damn clean below his knees. Very good overhead too. As we get closer to the draft I fully expect to read plenty of ‘could be the best of the lot’ descriptions.

Hewett I also like a lot. He’ll potentially be a slower burn like LDU but his combative nature and explosion from stoppage would complement the midfield we are trying to build around Rozee and Butters nicely.

At this stage that’s my top 3 realistic options.

If Clark slips he is another one to seriously consider, not flashy but screams professional footballer, he works both ways well , is clean with his skils and is ultra competive. For a flaky side such as ours he brings alot to the table.

I loved Sheezel at 8. He’s gone right up the board but I’m not seeing a better player than Tsatas, Clark, Phillipou or McKenzie on Representative form and while there’s a slight question mark on Humphreys kicking I’d still be taking him over Sheezel.

I think he has been flagged as a major flight risk due to some kind of faith?

I'm going to go Phillipou, Humphrey and Busslinger

I still think we need another midfielder, especially with Boak nearing the end and Wines nearing 30, would love to see another midfielder to run with Rozee and Butters. Humphrey looks like the one who can break open games. Some of his work even reminds me of JHF albeit not as good kicking.

That said, if we manage to trade in JHF, then Busslinger becomes my no.1 choice

'Some kind of faith'

Carn. His name is Sheezel. Do you need him to be named Mort Jewington?

Is workering hardery kosher?
Sheezel to be dropped after refusing Ken's offer to come over for some ham and cheese toasties for dinner.

If Phillipou is available to us we have to take him - simple as that, he's a player type that we will have a need for.

Scully would be nice to get too Forward/2nd Ruck with good height would be excellent.

As much as I would like Dunkley, I would prefer a combo where we spend 8 and 19 on an elite mid and a KPD.

Dunkley is an elite mid.

Dunkley is an elite mid.
Yeah but realistically, we don't challenge for a flag under Ken. A new coach will take 2 years to get things right in terms of mounting a challenge for the flag. By then Dunkley will be 29. I'd much rather get time into the likes of Mead and Bergman in the middle than Dunkley

Is him being 29 a problem? Geelong are the clear premiership favourites right now and about three quarters of their team is 29 or over.

Bergman might not even be here next year, and I've seen enough of Mead to be extremely confident that no matter how much opportunity we give him he's never going to be as good as Dunkley.

I'm not so sure I think its one of those the grass is greener on the other side situations - Good Player no doubt. But if he's elite he is first choice instead of Liberatore.
I have 2 issues with this 1. As I've said many times, in my world view Hinkley doesn't get the opportunity to build a new team. If we got Dunkley with the Amon Compo pick I'm slightly appeased but I think we should be drafting to be great in 2024 not good enough to get Hinkley a new deal in 2023.
That then gets to the issue of is the Amon compo better spent on a young player and that depends on who is available.

Libba can't play any other role Dunkley can .

Wouldnt it just be making your contention window smaller? Much rather draft someone and give them 3 years to develop now rather than using up those 3 years when the rest of the list is primed
