Eh. For me hayes >>> van es, and I really like van es. I think Hayes has elite potential, he moves way better than van es. In saying that Hayes will take longer to be ready imo.

Having said that while I rate Hayes higher, I would rather pick up van es with a pick in the 40-60 range than Hayes with pick 20
Well I considered a few things for why I went with Van Es over Hayes. Van Es already has the size and is a more traditional Key Defender imo. Hayes like you said will take a while and if his brother is anything to go by, may not be able to handle the Hawkins and other similar types.

Van Es is very likely to cost us anything more than pick 35 I think (and that's me being conservative, I think he'll go lower). I'd draft Kostanty with our Amon pick if he's available (or try and see if we can move that pick up in any way to draft Brayden George). That addresses all our needs (assuming we draft Phillipou or Humphrey) in this draft. Like I've mentioned before, I don't think we should trade for players unless they're below 25

Would be funny if the crows screw up the trade and miss out on Rankine.
You can only hope. They are so desperate to look like a destination club, they will end up shitting the bed at some point because as hard as they try they will never ever be a true club. Even the snake oil salesman Olsen is trying to promote them as a destination club. All in the name of polishing a turd.

Hopefully Cal Twomey puts out his phantom draft soon. From what I understand, he's quiet accurate with 1st round selections.
His phantom drafts in terms of which player goes to which club won't come out till October normally. His latest rankings based on talent is due to come out by end of this month

I would be horrified if we went after Konstanty with the Amon pick.

Going small forwards with early picks unless they’re elite juniors fails at an alarming rate.

Hell, key forwards and rucks probably succeed at a higher rate than small forwards.

Every year it seems like a handful of small forward types go in the 15-30 range and I’ll be ****ed if I can name more than a couple of them that I really like.

Just go late in the draft / rookie unless they’re a gun junior.

This is exactly why we don't have elite small forwards. If the Amon pick is around 25 I'm more than happy to go for Kostanty.

If it's pick 19 instead then I'll be thinking about someone else. That's when I'd consider trading up to take Brayden George.

My comment is based on the fact that we don't like Williams who I actually rate and think should play. But pressure small forward is a critical need for us along with KPD and elite small forwards are hard to trade for.

I'm not even sure how many small forwards in this draft have high potential and can be drafted with later picks. The only one I can think of that I like is Darcy Jones

Prefer a combo of Kostanty and Van Es over Hayes and Darcy Jones imo. It's a good debate though.

There is every chance Adelaide tries to use next years first and a swap of this years first (swap what is currently 5 & 7) to bring in Rankine which leaves them with the pick before us to draft Philipou.

We need to be talking to GC about a pick swap from 8 to 7 before the Adelaide trade goes down which would put us in front of Adelaide in that scenario.

GC might be amenable to this given it would make the pick less valuable to Adelaide (but still valuable) and they can get additional value for the pick (from us)
