Theres a world where we get busslinger and Hayes and I'm all for it
Think I posed the idea a while back that there’s some merit in going after buss, Hayes, van es, Weddle and more in one draft. Completely solidifying our key defensive stocks in one year and sets our spine for this era.

I'd do Hayes and Van Es. Not a fan of Busslinger that high.

Mate I'm all for us going players 197cm or taller in one year

Is this the draft to do it? Seems a midfielder or running back draft, but guys have a better eye than me.

The talls don’t appear great. Key forwards untested against quality backs, so how much can you read into Cadman’s or Jefferson’s form or that of Scully. Hayes, van es and Busslinger seem the only true KPDs in it. Phillips maybe too. Rest seem undersized or utility types or turning a forward into a back ie Lemmey or Barnett.

On a side note, if Cadman was there, would you take him with our first?

So from everyone is saying we need to get that deal done with GC and get that pick 7 from them
So we can get 2 of the boys you are all talking about

Is a multi account of someone as they have been seen to reply to themselves in some thread as if they were a different user. Forgot to log in and out of the 2 accounts. And yeh, some of the shite they post makes me think is a Janus type multi.

That's a new one for Sportsbet.

I reckon the laconic Cadman is top three, maybe West Coast pick 2

Scouting Notes Vic Metro vs Vic County.

Weddle looked the best defender by a long way, but he's a running type. We need a bloke to guard the gorilla forwards. Van Es was pretty inconspicuous

Others who may be around pick 8/9 were:

Tsitas - hardly noticed him.
Holland - couple of good things.
McKenzie - ditto.
Humphrey - ok, not great, but kept putting himself in it with bullocking, tackling and hard running, even though the ball seemed to bounce away from him all game, which is a good sign.
Hayes - not bad, playing in an unusual position for him.
McDonald - eye catching running, but do we need another hbf!!!
Hotton - creates things from nothing brilliantly, but has trouble kicking it straight when going for goal.
Hustwaite - nice disposal, calm and composed ala Pendlebury, but doesn't produce high enough numbers.
Penny - meh.
Kostanty - shows good craft around the goal face, but misses a lot.

I have concerns about Phillipou. Only made the best players in the Champs once (and that was fifth best v Allies). Does he have a game that’s only good against smaller opposition?

Phillipou will be bigger than most. A little like Bonts size wise. He’s barely eligible for this draft and few days of being in next years.

Carrying injury was the problem at the championships.

The back injury is a worry and you get a really big kid pushing to the limits without a solid foundation underneath him I can see you can get problems. If he was playing under 17s rather than 18s not having that foundation wouldn’t be as big an issue but that’s another story.

His best game

SANFL U18s Round 8 vs. West Adelaide
Stats – 33 disposals, 10 marks, 5 tackles, 6 clearances, 6 inside 50s, 3 goals
Phillipou has arguably performed amid higher stakes than a Round 8 SANFL Under 18s fixture, but his effort against West Adelaide produced his best game for the year – at least numbers wise. Westies were missing a bunch of prime movers and Phillipou took toll, racking up 33 touches and six clearances, while also threatening around the ground with 10 marks and three goals. His all-round game was on display during this game, which was one of four consecutive Under 18 outings with over 30 disposals. It was his first Eagles Under 18 win for the year, too, and his second-last at the level.

That’s how he finished his year off before injury and that’s a serious footballer.

I don’t think he’s getting to us. Hawks or if the Hawks don’t and the Crows manage to hold on to their 1st he’s not going past them.

It looks like he beat up on crap SA u18 opposition the entire year and as soon as he came up against the big boys he was given a bit of a shock.

That doesn't necessarily mean he is overrated. You can only beat who you play. But it does raise a few questions and for me makes him a bit of a risky selection. Picking one of the Victorians - a Jhye Clark for example or even a Humphrey - would be much safer. You know what you are going to get but the potential reward is probably a lot lower.

I'd be fine if we take him. You need to take a few risks in the draft to be successful. But I don't think it is a slam dunk decision if he is available. There is a bit to weigh up.

Having a kid his size learning his craft on a forward flank for 3-4 years will be good for him and good for us.

The 2 big boys Lemmey and Scully going to fall that far? Bloody hope so.
Really like the look of Billy Dowling aswell.
Still the Pou or Hewitt at our first for me .

I hope we can fill our boots with these big boys in this draft. Lycett will be lucky to see out 1 season and I'd say 2 is his limit. The Donut King will trade Hayes out. And Teakle I hope he will be good but you just can't give any guarantees and so far he's played a good quarter and a half. Visentini has some big wraps but has done nothing yet.

I'd love to see a couple rucks, a Dixon replacement, and a Ruck/Forward come in. 2 on the list and 2 as Rookies. Hopefully there will be one or two that play more than 100 games.

Played a couple of good games in the Reserves too.
Still 17 for 4 months.
Carried injury(s) for quite a while.
Potential upside is disgustingly impressive.
You take the risk.

I know this won't happen but a smart person would sit back this year and watch the large amount of movement between clubs and do beneficial trading of draft picks this year to strengthen our position for next years draft and try and make next year the same as the Rozee draft where we had 3 picks in the Top 20 and perhaps have an even stronger hand than that year.
Just draft up these big guys late. If Phillipou goes before our pick then trade out of the draft into next years. I could see us being able to swap Amon compo for a late First Round next year and if a team has a serious hardon we could get a 1st and a 2nd next year for 8.
If we could get hold of Gold Coast pick 7 we could really get something going we must have a decent amount of free cap space if we can offer between Rioli and Dunkley over $1 million
