The McStay Rd 2 compo pick pushed Melbourne's 42 to 43 and their Hunt compo pick 52 to 53 ( and they keep their 51 that moved to 52)

So do we now have 33, 43, 53, 55, 58 and 82.

Thats a lot of picks in the mid rounds (50s). Guessing some of these are for on trading.
Maybe 33,43,53,55,58 = 1551 points to Brissy who just need points for ashcroft and fletcher and a return to us of 34,35,56 -1258pts or something like this.We pick up extra 2nd , not sure what where planning.

So 33,43 and 53 to Brisbane for 15

Then split 15 and 57 to GC for 25 and 32?

Tack 25 to the Two firsts to North and send 32 to wce for Jnr (or vice versa)

Is that crazy?

Gold Coast dont have any academy bids this year do they?

Can anyone explain the Melbourne pick swap with us?

Is it simple as they now have 27, expect to get two top 15/20 picks for Jackson this year, maybe also a player thrown in if one pick is for 2023, and they are only going to draft 4 kids, maybe a speculative pick and a couple of rookies. They still have picks 54+67+72 +..... So far they have cut 3 and Hunt left under free agency.

They mentioned today that they didn't intend to use pick 43 and 53 in this year's draft so they basically got 33 upgraded to 27 for free in their eyes

I think it’s to improve their trade hand. I don’t think they intend to take pick 27 to the draft.

Most clubs are taking 2-3 ‘live’ picks, usually within the first two/three rounds and banking any NGAs and father sons they can at the draft. Teams tend to have become more conservative and avoid taking too many draft picks these days.

The other aspect, which Collingwood recruiter Derek Hine (correct me if I’m wrong), said most clubs nowadays actively keep one or two spots free for preseason supplemental period and the mid season draft. Allows them to focus on 10-20 players and chase a need. Gives them a chance to have several train on players to see who makes the grade, rather than take them during the rookie draft and take a dud.

With the general thought that this is a weaker draft overall, we may see many clubs start the preseason with unfilled lists and will probably see more clubs continue the trend and trade out of this draft.

Pcik 27 win be on-traded for Grundy
