Sorry if I am incorrect, but are we not allowed up to 44 players, with two being Category B? We must have a minimum of 37? We can have 34-36 main list and 4-6 rookies, maximum of 42? If I am correct, we have up to three spots available on the main list, if we wish.
36-38 main list & 4-6 rookies totaling 42, plus up to 3 Cat B rookies I'm pretty sure.

I would say Frederick & maybe McEntee will be delisted so we can fit in:
  • Francis Evans
  • ND33 & ND60
  • Upgrade Pasini
  • Two of: Re-Rookie McEntee, Harper Montgomery, state league KPD
  • Maybe Barkla as Cat B

Is there any chance Lewis Hayes slips to 33?
Yes as he could not complete the 2k time trial. 4 big guys that could be there:

Isaac Keeler 198cm/88kg North Adelaide Key forward/ruck
Lewis Hayes 197cm/81kg Eastern Ranges Key defender
James Van Es 196cm/97kg GWV Rebels Key defender
Harry Lemmey 199cm/93kg West Adelaide Key forward

Why the **** did we not bring in a KPD last year?

I know we brought in Skinner but looking at the ages of McKenzie, Clurey, Jonas and Aliir it was obvious we needed more.

I wonder if we had out eye on Oscar Adams who went just before our picks?

Charlie Dean we could have had.

Noah Pegoraro played in the WAFL GF this year and could be a mature age option? Made the state league team the last 2 years.

Justin Davies as a 19 year old could be interesting. He sounds like the type we need and that red hair could make for a cult figure.

This year Chris25 on the D and T board says "KPD wise, James Van Es is an option. I personally prefer the two WA prospects - Jed Adams and Hugh Davies. Maybe look at Shaun Bennier as a rookie too."

I really wanted us to go after bazzo (197cm key defender from Wa) last year when it became apparent he was sliding down draft boards. Wanted us to trade into the draft to get him.

Ended up going around pick 40 to the eagles.

Thats how I see it too. I wouldn't rule out getting a delisted KP who can play in defence. Sproule might be a chance as a rookie.

Can somone explain to me how he didnt complete the 2km time trial?

Is there a time cap? Was the guy sick/have an injury?

I find it unfathomable that an 18yo athlete couldn't at least just trot the 2km at 6min/km pace

It looked like he tried too hard and blew up. Another draftee needed to carry him across the line. Maybe he was sick we will never know, but it was a strange look, especially given his brother's aerobic issues.

Again, i dont know how this can happen

As someone thats ran amueter events and played local level ive seen people blow up and still be able to finish

Like surely Lewis had some idea of a pace he knew he could run, like this wouldnt have been his first 2km time trial

I just find the whole thing peculiar

Quite possibly!

Lewis Hayes is not a quick fix. He is too skinny to play as a KPD and will take years to be up to it. We can't afford to wait years for a player, our need is immediate. Van Es (197 cm and 96 kg) looks a better option for the short to medium term and has some serious athletic ability. He's also good one on one, whereas Hayes is more of an intercept defender.

Speaking from a position of supreme ignorance compared to many in thus thread, would our draft strategy now be:

1. currently our numbers of Main list/Rookie/Cat 'B' (M/R/B) sit at 35/4/0 = 39
2. can have 36-38/4-6/0-2 = 42+2 = 44
3. add Evans = 36/4/0 = 40
4. delist Frederick (M)= 35/4/0 = 39
5. delist McEntee (R) = 35/3/0 = 38
6. upgrade Pasini (R) because rules say we have to = 36/2/0 = 38
7. take two (M) picks 33 and 60 = 38/2/0 = 40
8. take 1 or 2 (R) picks = 38/3/0 = 41 or 38/4/0 = 42
9. given Flynn, Frederck and the guy from WWT (can't remember his name) never really progressed, do we take a philosophical decision to not take any Cat 'B' picks? I would - but I reckon the club won't go that way to save money
10. gives us picks #33, #60 and 1 or 2 Rookie picks.

Draft wise:
1. with #33 we could target either Van Ess or Phillips, if either is still there then (have not seen vision of either - just going off posters' descriptions of both)
2. no to Hayes - seems to have his brother's aerobic incapacity
3. Keeler, Barnett will be gone by mid-20's most likely
4. Lemmey may be gone by then as well
5. Sculley can outmark smaller U'18s with his height, but lacks the strength for the blokes he will be up against in the AFL, so no
6. with #60, I like what I have seen with Verrall's highlights. Good in ruck (at 200cm and a strong leap; both palms and punches the ball), plays like a taller version of Finlayson when the ball hits the ground, excellent kick for someone that size, gets the ball to boot very quickly, clunks contested marks - versatile enough to play a KPP role too
7. if Magor there, he's definite a Rookie pick for us
8. either target another speedy running type - or leave a one Rookie spot open for the Supplemental list or the mid-season Draft.

Rookie father/son Harper Montgomery ?

Our ruck stocks: Lycett - s**t (always was)
Hayes - the one I hope makes it
Visintini - Looks a competitor
Teakle - Not great at actually rucking and is very slight.

That's 4 rucks without counting chop outs. Of the chop outs, I'm with FishingRick04 that Dixon should be played as pure ruck, at least in front of Lycett. Leaves the forward line for Marshall MG and Finlayson which I think is the best mix.

When we are so low on KPD's I'd go with at least 2 in this draft and hope 1 makes it and also hope either Pasinini comes back well from ACL or a free agent presents next year. I think it is way more of a need than another young ruck.
Finlayson was out best ruckman last year.
I hope he will play on the wing amd we mimicks Blicavs and the Geelong rucks.
With five on the bench, Hayes should get more games.

No, he was our best 'once the ball hits the deck' tall.

He routinely got fisted be semi competent ruck

Love to grab Isaac Keeler: I reckon the Swannies will draft him
