Why the * did we not bring in a KPD last year?

I know we brought in Skinner but looking at the ages of McKenzie, Clurey, Jonas and Aliir it was obvious we needed more.
Rarely do our recruiting staff cop it, but that Skinner selection should 100% be on their hands. That was a horrible, horrible selection. We would've been better off selecting a kid in the draft.

It wasn't really. Based on what he was showing last year he seemed like a good choice, and he had experience in the AFL system. For some reason (possibly his body wasn't up to AFL workload?) he dropped off enormously this year. Easy to say with the benefit of hindsight it was a bad call, but at the time it made sense.

Unfair to compare the stats as he went from a rounded SANFL side to an incompetent one, where he played in the ruck and forward line as well as defence.

The issue was, he wasn’t a break glass in emergency type as he had injury concerns and wasn’t a proven AFL player (ie compared to say Josh Walker or Daniel Talia - not saying we should have brought them in) nor was he a likely development option (like Pasini) due to his lack of speed and agility after 3 knee recons. So it was a real nothing pick.

To his credit he gave it a real crack and tried hard for the club.

Are we really delisting McEntee, Dumont and Frederick now, considering we have already announced the other delistings?

Looks like when you see a baby giraffe trying to walk

And hows they all clap him

Just for it to awkwardly stop when he collapses again

Pretty sure all the GPS data of the players from the U18 comp is available to the clubs so they would have a fair idea of what players can and can’t do.

Would still like to see Hayes’s run in its entirety before passing judgment on him. Obviously needs work but I’m sure there’s more to that run than the last 50 metres.

If we somehow manage Harry Barnett, Van Es and Magor, would be pants down lap around the table time.
Today's paper has a Top 40 Draft list, possible defenders around our pick 33 include:

28 Max Gruzewski Oakleigh Chargers Forward/Defender 192cm 84kg

29 Ed Allan Claremont mid 194cm 82kg

32 Max Michalanney

Norwood/SA/Crows father-son – Defender, 192cm, 78kg

24 Isaac Keeler 198cm 88kg (both worth considering to upset the Crows)

17 Lewis Hayes 197cm 81kg

17 Henry Hustwaite 194cm 84kgs (alas, both probable long gone before 33)

That Haye's time trial was extremely uncomfortable to watch, and unless it was caused by a known issue that clubs are prepared to take into account it could push him well down the draft order from where he is expected to go.

The above aside I believe he is a longer term project than we probably need at this stage with the current list, and we already have project talls in Lord and Visentini (with the former already having the physical attributes to be some chance of making the grade, and the latter looking very promising plus showing a lot of versatility in his first season with the Maggies), so unless Hayes drops way down the order I believe the club will be better off selecting a 195 cm plus kpd who is at least some chance of playing from day one, even if he's a mature ager from one of the state comps.

Don't need a midfielder unless there is an unbelievable slider. I can't see how a midfielder we draft will make it into our midfield in the coming years unless they are extremely good. We already have Mead and Drew who will struggle to get a place.

Could be partial to a small forward if there is a decent one available.

This is probably a draft to take two genuine talls in my opinion. One in the back half and one forward. It will be speculative but if you take two there is a fair chance one works out.

I think Lemmey might still be worth taking a punt on if he is there at 33. I like how he plays in comparison to our other talls. Good leading patterns, nice kicking action and can do some work up the ground. He needs to use his size better but that is developable. His leading is a nice.point of difference compared to a Visentin or Teakle for example.

I would like another mid if we can squeeze one in, purely because we don't actually have that many genuine mids of proven quality (note I have excluded flankers that have yet to show that genuine mid can be their permanent home. This includes Butters, Bergman, Duursma, Houston, Jones & Sinn. They might make it, but at this stage we shouldn't be banking on it and ignoring the risk that they don't):
  • Boak 34
  • Wines 28
  • Drew 24 capable but can step up a level
  • SPP 24 playing as a HFF
  • Rozee 22
  • Horne Francis 20 potential star, but unproven at this stage

And then below that:
  • Dumont 27 AFL quality, but limited - excellent depth
  • Mead 21 unproven, may never reach the level
  • Jackson 20 unproven, project player

One more developing would be nice.
