Knightmare has a hard on for mature age players
From memory he has had Voss in his top 40 before

Wouldnt look too much into it
He has Voss 15th as we speak. Knightmare is a spud.

Hi all and sorry for the intrusion on your board. Just wondering if Port might consider Josh Walker who just got delisted from North?

He has his faults but is a big and very strong lock down key defender who can take the gorrila forwards

It's not an intrusion to post on the Port board. Visitors are always welcome.

He is still only 29 years old, and is the type & height to fit our tall-backman need. Interested to hear the thoughts of others here.

Very capable against the big forwards. Wouldn’t surprise if we did have a look. He will be 30 soon. We really stuffed up signing McKenzie so early in offseason. Don’t know if having 3 30+ fullbacks is the best profile.

he i a spud. wouldnt help u at all. there would be better WAFL,VFL or SANFL key defenders out there

i do like in Lemmys highlights he never tried to do to much. took the quick easy option and never tried to do anything fancy or outside of his ability
This QUOTE is from Rookie Me Central (formerly Draft Central)
They reckon there are only three people who would play in key position defence position. If Van Es is not taken, we may have to use #33.

QUOTE: A DEARTH of defensive options is set to put some prospects’ price at a premium come AFL draft time.
In a general consensus, only two to three genuine defenders are in first round contention, as well as a couple of hybrid prospects who are likely to land around the mark.

Although, some defensive talents may have their current rankings inflated due to a seeming lack of high-end options. Compounding that, apt interceptors and athletic defenders who can slingshot the ball off half-back with speed and elite kicking are coming into vogue at the top level.
  1. Jedd Busslinger
  2. Lewis Hayes
  3. James Van Es
Vic Country full back Van Es is a 197cm prospect, he is much more physically developed compared to Hayes, and has a clear one-wood with his intercept marking in one-on-one duels. He’ll be a chance down the order.

There is a bit on Third Talls etc. but this sentence caught my eye.

Lastly, the likes of Harry Barnett and Edward Allan could be players to find homes in defence given their unique traits. Currently, Barnett operates as a mobile, high-marking ruck and is among the top 25 talents. Allan is a 194cm outside midfielder who has been playing on the inside, and may push for third round selection

Just take both the big blokes.

We should be thinking about recruiting to eventually replace Aliir let alone Jonas, McKenzie and Clurey

On SM-G975F using BigFooty.com mobile app
Certainly Aliir plays at a much higher level, but at 28yrs 1mth he is only 5 months younger than Clurey.

With our current list we don't play a tall defender who doesn't turn 29 next year.

I'm curious as to when the crows have ever bid on a Port Academy or Father-Son player. For weeks before the 2020 draft there was absolute panic stations they would bid on Lachie Jones and they went straight to drafting Luke Pedlar.

Or when we have bid on one of theirs? We even let Borlase go through to the keeper.

Why would they possibly be interested in Montgomery?
The mead bid was somewhat suspect.

Maybe swans bid was legit, but the fact the swans traded up the draft suggests they had a player in mind they wanted, the fact they got the pick from the crows and then bid on a player we were always going to match…

Maybe the swans liked mead, maybe crows told them they needed the pick to bid on mead and that was a condition

Who knows. But there’s enough reason to at least suspect.

Kyle Marshall tested very well at State Combine (running, jumping, 198cm).
Never took much notice of him before, so does anyone know if the kid can play ok or not?
I must have watched dozens of south’s games while he’s been playing and I’ve barely noticed him and couldn’t really say anything about him.

Looks like he played only in the under 18s. Seems a solid defender, and has some agility.

From the glenelgfc.con.au regarding the SA draft combine:

South Adelaide tall defender Kyle Marshall also showed off his impressive athleticism, placing in the top five in all three Vertical Jumps as well as the 20m Sprint and 2km Time Trial.

Marshall, who has attracted the attention of recruiters as a centre half-back, clocked the highest running vertical jump off both feet before running the 20m Sprint in 3.016 seconds.

The Panthers junior later showed off his long-distance running ability at Bridgestone Arena, in Salisbury, by finishing the 2km Time Trial in 6.27 minutes.

Yeah I was talking about under 18’s, while watching other juniors, and never really noticed him, tho it’s often hard to notice key defenders watching on a screen from home.

Key Defenders possibly available at Pick 33, 60 & Rookie:

33:
Lewis Hayes 197cm/81kg Key Defender Eastern Ranges

James Van Es 196cm/97kg Key Defender GWV Rebels

60:
Kyle Marshall 198cm/79kg Key Defender South Adelaide

Ethan Phillips 196cm/90kg Key Defender age 23 Port Melbourne

Rookie:
Darcy Minchella 197cm/76kg Ruckman/Key Defender West Adelaide
Hayes made the 2022 NAB AFL U18 All-Australian team, he will be long gone by our pick

I think Lemmey is the one as a KPD if Hayes is off the board.
Obviously up and down season, and is no guarantee but personally I would prefer to roll the dice on a prospect with potential to be high end rather than a more certain average player with a pick in the 30s.

Grab Phillips late if available for a quicker fix.

190cm, 83kg Monty is a neat-kicking defender, who uses his long arms to great effect, leading all non-AFL listed players in the SANFL for intercept marks.
