that's a good height.

It surprised me, he looked shorter than that in the video.

He looks good at getting in and under to the ball and slipping through tight spaces.

Like Eugene Tooms in X-Files :p

I thought that nominating him before the national draft means we have to take him in the national draft unless he goes before pick 40. I believe to nominate as a rookie, we need to nominate him for the rookie draft if he's not selected in the national draft. My recollection is this is what the Crows had to do to get Borlase and Newchurch as Cat B rookies.

I hope I'm wrong.
If a club other than us picks up Barkla within the first 40 picks, he goes to that club and we can not match a bid. If Barkla goes past pick 40, then he automatically gets rookie listed by us.

Aaaannnddd.......... he plays as a........

half back flanker 👍😎😄
Yeah, it sounds a bit “vanilla“ but so many players cut their teeth as hbf…… ie Connor Rozee was a half back flanker when drafted….. and a hbf can evolve to midfield players, wingman as well as back pockets, hff etc. Beginning as a hbf does help with their defensive understanding…….. he could evolve into a ⭐️ or not….. we’ll see in time.

Rozee was a mid fielder in under age comps and at national championships, won the U/16 national champs medal, but when he got picked for North Adelaide's league side, Carr put him on the HBF to protect him, think he was only 72kgs, and to use his speed. He did a bit better than play the seagull HBFer role, but he wasn't a lockdown player when he played those 12 or 15 games for North's league side at HBF in 2018.

Didn't he start at HF in the seniors and played well but towards the end of the season his form dropped away and he got moved to HB?

I remember watching him late in the season and the 3 or 4 finals and thinking, we have to have a crack at getting him for his speed alone. You might be right, but he didn't play midfield when i watched him, and he play a lot there in his underage games.

That doesn't sound right. After pick 40, any club can pick him and we can match the selection. He doesn't automatically become a rookie after pick 40.

Yep
Can't match bids under ick 40.
Can match them after that.
If no one picks him in the Main Draft we can automatically Rookie draft him - as a Cat B.

Im sucked in by players who have at least the right body frame - but know little about their football ability. Was struck by this guy:
Josh Rentsch (Sturt)
Age
: 18
Position: Forward (197cm, 100kg)

That's a big boy.

36. Port Adelaide – Harry Lemmey (West Adelaide/SA)
Forward, 202cm, 95kg
Jordan says: If you said Port Adelaide would finish the calendar year with Jason Horne-Francis and Harry Lemmey at the start of 2021, you would’ve been laughed out of the room. The West Adelaide forward wasn’t able to maintain the standard he set in a standout bottom-age season but, despite the concerns around his competitiveness, there’s too much talent to let the homegrown product slip any further.

True. However if you told me that we wouldn't trade in a KPD or pick one before pick 60 I would have left the room for a good laugh...or a good cry.

Currently we don't have a tall defender under the age of 28 who has played an AFL game. Of the 4 we have, 3 had injury issues this year and the one that didn't is 32 next year and looked to be struggling this year. Two play undersized (although have done an admirable job). Our most promising up and comer won't be back from an ACL until half way through the season. And he is currently 193cm and 82kg.

No need to worry though as we have 7 HBF's with AFL experience. 8 if you count Burton, and don't Sinn. Admittedly some look capable of playing other roles.

Maybe I should just be thankful that we now have 3 KPF's playing regularly under the age of 27.
