Just looking at the situation now, Sydney must've been prepared to actually take the player. GWS could easily have said no if that was too low for them. WB would've 100% known Fletcher was being matched.

I don’t know if it was overs by GWS, but might have been by Adelaide.

Sydney are a professional operation. Take a shot at a couple of players that you rate (but probably know you have to pay overs for), if it doesnt come off, trade into your next preferred player.
