List Mgmt. 2022 AFL Draft

Phillips had an undeniably great year but as I said yesterday, he didnt play on anyone all year. Its easy to look great when you can run around doing whatever you like.

D'Aloia maybe a bit stiff but he always had a bit of the Jonty Scharenbergs about him, just too vanilla with no standout trait. Pity though as he's a great lad.

Phillips not picked up?

Almost like he wasnt that good to begin with
I would have been keen to pick him up late in the draft, but happy to go with the judgement of the professional recruiting teams of all 18 AFL clubs. Very happy with the Marshall pick.

It's funny, because all of the melts that happened when we picked up a 192cm defender probably wouldn't have happened if we picked Phillips with that pick, but clearly he's not good enough in the minds of everyone who matters

I guess that no one looking at Phillips in the 2022 mid-season draft with a reasonable body of work behind him should have sounded alarm bells.

D'Aloia and Syzbkowski show the afl doesn't want non athletes without a major trick.

The minds that matter also drafted umpteen kids in the last two days that will never make it out of state leagues & be delisted as well.. sorry to go Patient Mental but ya know.

Did Kye Roberts, the Westies lad we had at the Magpies under a SANFL development program, get picked up by anyone?
Nope. I'm wondering if Kye Roberts and Trent Burgoyne can do another year as SANFL listed players for us, or if they just return to their SANFL clubs.

I doubt any of them think they're going to pick 200 gamers with every pick. They'd know the success rates better than anyone.
I'm not trying to shit on the melters. They're fun - having an opinion is good

Well that is it then. Our 2023 list is done and dusted.

Horne- Francis is a definite positive and Rioli could be useful but I look at that list and do not see automatic final eight stamped all over it. It is possible that we can make the eight but we will need a couple of younger players to step up.

Given the cost of recruiting Horne-Francis we were never going to be huge players in the Draft and we did reasonably well considering we didn't start until the end of the second round. Scully, Kyle Marshall and possibly McCallum will be project players and it is unfortunate that we could not score a mature age tall defender but you cannot have everything. Hopefully Ratugolea does not re sign with Geelong next year and becomes an uncontracted target for us.

The new recruits begin work on Friday so good luck to them.

AFL:
KPF - Dixon 200cm, Marshall 198cm, Georgiades 192cm
KPD - Allir 194cm, Clurey 193cm, Mckenzie 191cm
Ruck - Lycett 203cm
R/F - Finlayson 197cm
SANFL:
KPF - Lord 197cm, Scully 203cm, Teakle 204cm
KPD - Pasini 192cm, McCallum 193cm, K Marshall 201cm
Ruck - Hayes 205cm
R/F - Visentini 202cm

The McCallum pick in isolation felt a bit weak. With all the pieces in place now it looks better however. Looks to have some real upside and tools.

One concern I have is fitting in all these talls and giving them reasonable opportunity to develop. Other concern is not having an msd pick as it stands.

Unfortunately there is usually an injury or two that wipes out someone and opens a spot. We tend to be too slow to realize someone is out for the season and don't take full advantage of the mid season draft. Last season we failed to cover for Sinn and Lycett, only covering for Pasini. The previous year we didn't cover for Rockcliff only taking McEntee as every club got rights to one player to add to their list without the need to replace an injured player.

I did ask the question in the trade period when JHF trade was stalling and he said we would have to give up MG to get the deal done, does Rucci have NFI or is he running his usual Machiavellian interference directed from the club?? I was told on here he had NFI.

I think you might be more accurate than him having NFI. There is no way he isn't talking to the footy department about who and how we will trade/draft.

I'm the same now, I think it's an act.

Listening to him on SEN occasionally he routinely contradicts himself then flat-out denies it with lame reasoning that doesn't stand up to any form of scrutiny. For ages I'm thinking this guy is a total unit.

However now I think it's an act to provoke the audience/listeners. He is seemingly wrong so often without the slightest care that I think it's part of the act.

Only one draft left (the most important): the buddy draft.

I'm a sucker for project/fringe smalls, but who to target? Francis, McEntee, Jackson, Barkla, Williams. Spoilt for choice.

It’s ridiculous hindsight to say that posters who were concerned we picked a 193cm 3rd tall shouldn’t have been worried.

We absolutely needed our recruitment team to go after height, and our first pick down, and common consensus being we would only draft 2 players, posters who questioned whether our club had the same concerns as us were absolutely beyond a doubt right to be nervous.

In the end the fact the shortest player we drafted was a 192/193cm defender is great, but based on our history it easily could have gone another way.

But it didn’t, and I’ve seen our posters generally be very excited, as I am.

There seems to be more “melting” about “melting”

This bad boy has served me very well over the years whenever anyone gets particularly hoity-toity about ‘melters’ and ‘bedwetters’.

The more things change.

Those Thursday night melts will be back before you know it.

That would be sound logic if this board wasn't the undisputed no.1 board on bigfooty for scorched earth style melting. There's daylight between this board and the next worst board for melting at the slightest thing.
