We can still match a bid as long as we have open spots, which I think we have a couple of still
Yep.

still 2x spots left that can be main or rookie list

I feel sorry for Hagan; don't know much about the kid off the field, but on the field looks like he definitely has a place at AFL level. I really liked Gilbey's game but he was injured so not as surprised that he looks like he will miss out.

There was lots of talk that this draft would only go 50 picks but we look like we have scrapped through to almost 60.

I overall can't fault the strategy of choosing for needs, apart from a small forward we've bolstered where we're weakest.
It just seems odd to have wasted draft capital on two mature agers we could have presumably have got for nothing via other means, but anyway I guess it reflects our low opinion of the 18 year olds that were on offer, and as I said the list balance now looks a lot better than it did three hours ago before our first pick

I guess we’re taking the punt on the Cat B rookies.

Guessing we took the safe back up plan of mature bodies, they get their contract and hopefully require little further development. If we had taken four newbees our backup probably going to be light on. Can't seeing any getting a game in 2023 unless injuries hit us. Good luck boys

Pretty underwhelming so far for me, except the key defender

Thought if we wanted a ruck, we should have gone established, so if one goes down they’re ready to go. A ruck first year isn’t that risk mitigation

Meh on another medium forward - didn’t we just trade for one and Sturt?

No small forward or key forward

A genuine medium forward was my #1 wish as it is the area we are most deficient. Banfield and Sturt are close to delist material. Corbett is more of a straight line small KPF. We need someone with agility/speed.

Not sure if Emmett is the correct choice, but he's the most likely player to make any contribution to our side in the coming years. The KPD and ruck will be developing for years and I'd only play Wagner with a catastrophic injury list.

Are we going to rookie Broadbent and Scaife?

Would think that we would go Draper (injury hit but very athletic 197cm utility who can play pretty much any position on the ground) and maybe Conrad Williams (speed and skilled off a wing, but very skinny and doesn't get enough of it at this stage). Be interesting to see if we are tempted instead to go with a Hagan or Gilbey instead of Williams.

Can't see us going Broadbent when we have taken Knobel and we have enough pure tall forwards.

I kinda respect the club for going two mature players. We've identified our window and our core and we dont want to piss fart around with more kids. We identified two projects in Davies and Knobel that we know we can stash and take our time with.

Do also agree we probably could have brought in Emmet and Wagner through cheaper means but overall, happy with a slightly bolder approach to drafting compared to our normal "best available"
