Hope Cadman is worth it
They traded their pick 12 for him as well and then got dudded by the swans and lost pick 17 to boot.

I just wish we did the trade with GWS for 1+slops for 3 & 12 before we traded JHF to Port. If GWS was out of the picture they would have had to pony up something different. Pick 40 and 43 have been watered down even more putting them into 2023.

We could have picked up a Busslinger or Jefferson with 12.

The outcome wasn't horrific, but I don't think we maximised our potential value, it would have been a more risky play though, there was the potential Port couldn't get 2 off of the Eagles.

Hayes or Cowan would be fantastic. Hayes a genuine key defender with huge scope for development. Cowan a dashing half back with booming kick.

Given we brought in Logue to go with McKay, Corr and Dawson is a KPD a priority at this point in time?

Similar with half back flankers, we have too many of them, it even starved Goater of getting games this year.

What would you classify as our most important positional needs at the club?

Surely Gruz or Keeler are bordering round 3 now, too much top rated talent is still there

Checks notes… we traded out our round 3 pick and for the sake of list balance we need someone with size. We did have two 3rd round picks that we virtually threw in the bin as we had no list spots available.

This is the hole you put yourself in when you get stuck picking purely for needs versus best available. Picking Clarke as a small forward when nearly 20% of your list is a small/medium forward is high risk as there are other major areas of concern.

Imagine Charlie Clarke, Harvey, Ford, Mahoney, Spicer or any of the other small forwards all in the VFL whilst we have no KP and Keeler, Gruz or Hayes could have been developing?

I would like to see a KP with our remaining pick and another with a rookie pick so we have two bookends developing in the VFL.

Couldn't agree more. Half back we have enough that cowan isn't a need as exhilarating as he is. Need a tall. Keeler defs would fill that void but I think the club more wants to try get 4 Victorians including Cooper. Gruzewski would defs fit the picture Hayes aswell. Need to think about list balance as the club has clearly neglected it for to long

Umm… we must watch a different team, because a high quality rebounding defender is absolutely a need… If he’s available, he’s also likely best available…

SNAPSHOT: “A clean and composed tall midfielder with uncanny spacial awareness and the ability to rotate to defence.”

The Hustwaite name has been synonymous with success in the Dandenong Stingrays region of late, with current draft prospect Henry following in the footsteps of elder brother Campbell – the club’s 2018 premiership captain.

Though the ‘Rays fell short of a second flag in five years, the junior Hustwaite has established himself as a genuine top level chance throughout 2022. The 18-year-old enjoyed a growth spurt which shot him up to 194cm, adding size to his sound smarts and stoppage craft.

Compared to the likes of Scott Pendlebury for his left-foot kicking and composure, Hustwaite perhaps runs against the grain of many traits which make a modern day prospect, but offers invaluable natural footballing traits which help him shine.

He turned out 12 times for Dandenong in this year’s NAB League season, earning an AFL Academy call-up and Vic Country honours along the way. He helped both the Stingrays and Big V to title deciders, starting off as a third tall behind the ball before being thrust into midfield and thriving en route to a National Combine invite.

Exciting medium forward Brayden George is one of several players that have been linked to the Giants. Others include Gippsland Power’s Jacob Konstanty, Sandringham Dragons’ Charlie Clarke and Swan Districts’ Darcy Jones, with Clarke considered the most likely to be taken of that trio. They could also look at gun WA midfielder Elijah Hewett, who hasn’t been invited to attend the first night of the draft at Marvel Stadium but remains in the first-round mix. There’s also the possibility of drafting a key defender, which would bring Josh Weddle, Lewis Hayes and even Max Gruzewski into the equation, while both Henry Hustwaite — a versatile midfielder that has the potential to become a third tall defender — and Olli Hotton are also in the mix.

There’s talk the Eagles are keen on Charlie Clarke and Coby Burgiel, but local product Elijah Hewett would be hard to ignore if he’s still on the board when West Coast’s third pick comes along. East Fremantle bolter Kaleb Smith and Claremont defender Sam Gilbey are also on the Eagles’ radar.

While the Dogs have also put a lot of work into WA bolter Ed Allan. Lewis Hayes or Josh Weddle would be their other best key defensive options. There’s even a few whispers top Tasmanian prospect Lachie Cowan — a rebounding defender in the Bailey Dale mould — is in the Dogs’ sights, but that could be more likely with their second-rounder. Rival clubs also wouldn’t be shocked if the Bulldogs again dipped into their VFL program — like they did in 2018 and 2021 to select Will Hayes and Robbie McComb respectively — and recruited Footscray captain Lachie Sullivan.

For their pick in the 20s, opposition teams expect North Melbourne to target a key-position defender, with exciting Noah Balta-like swingman Max Gruzewski, Tasmania’s Tom McCallum and GWV Rebels prospect James Van Es all linked to the Roos. It’s also why North might bid on Max Michalanney with their second-round pick if the Crows father-son prospect hasn’t attracted rival interest yet.

Best-case scenario: Not only are Gruzewski, McCallum and Van Es still up for grabs by the time the Roos’ second-round pick comes along, Eastern Ranges star Lewis Hayes — who some clubs believe is the best key defensive prospect in the draft class — is also on the board after sliding past an array of clubs.

Bergman perez and goater all play that role not to mention we also have mcdonald hall and young also. Even bonar that is way more then enough of that type of player. We have 2 genuine proper key forwards once of which barely gets on the park. Our tall needs outweigh anything on the list

I’m all for Cowan, but to his point of rebounding defenders - who do we have in that mould. McDonald, Hall, Perez, Lachy, Goater, Dawson?

Could we trade up with West Coast in this draft and trade back next years but also pick up more picks for Pickett?

Wce 23 plus a future 3rd & 4th (46&58) for 26 and our future 3rd (38)?
