The pre-season has now officially come to an end and that time has come again to demonstrate your incredible knowledge and foresight, just fluke a few guesses, or make a fool of yourself. Either way put your thoughts out there!

For the record, last year we voted for a Top 8 of:
Brisbane
Port

Richmond
Geelong
Bulldogs

St Kilda
West Coast
GWS

Nearly our worst effort so far. Only 12 people picked Melbourne to make the finals. The worst effort since 2018 when only 9 people picked the Coasters to make the 8.

So our prediction thread has gone:
2021: 5 of 8
2020: 7 of 8
2019: 6 of 8
2018: 5 of 8
2017: 6 of 8
2016: 5 of 8

So going by that trend, we're likely to pick at least 2, maybe 3 sides that will fail to make the 8. Who will we overestimate this year?

No one picked the grand finalists or premiers last year.

Us against the rest picked Wines for the Brownlow.

Janus picked Wines and Aliir for AA, though he did also list half the team. A few others got Aliir or Ollie.

Nearly all of us picked the Kangas for the spoon, so that was our most accurate prediction by far, despite 'Snake Baker' telling us all early in the season how wrong we were and how the Roos would surprise the comp.

For some added fun.....

A Positive Story Line from the year:
- After bowing out in straight sets, Ken Hinkley is sacked effective immediately.

Negative Story Line for the year:
- Orazio Fantasia plays 4 games for the season before being ruled out with injury.

Feel like the bottom half of the top 8 predictions could have a lot more variety than usual.

Port, GWS, StK, Syd, Geel, Rich, Ess, Freo, Carl, GC. All contenders for 5 of the spots.

Power Most Improved: Mitch Georgiades

Notes:
- Hawthorn appear to be a popular choice for the spoon. I'm very certain that they'll win it this year with a terrible list, no more Clarko factor and a rookie coach who's not ready for it.

- I'm very big on the Swans this year. Dawson and Hewett are big losses, don't get me wrong, but their list is perfect with the right mix of young guns (McDonald, Gulden, Campbell, Wicks, McInerney, Blakey, Warner etc), guys in the middle age bracket (Heeney, Papley, Mills etc) and senior players (Franklin, Kennedy, Parker, Lloyd, Rampe, Reid, Cunningham, Hickey etc.)

- After two Grand Finals outside Victoria being all-Victorian contests, I have a feeling that the first Grand Final back at the MCG will be two non-Vic teams. Obviously I'm bias but if we don't make it then next most likely is GWS and Brisbane.

Brisbane, Dogs, demons, freeo, blues, GWS, Richmond, Geelong, no order.

What do you know that we don't?

Still hard to beat at home. Top 15 players still as good as any team going around. Strong culture. Have a bit of an injury list to start the season but also have a piss easy first 6 games (Gold Coast home, North away, Freo home, Collingwood away, Sydney home, Power away). Maybe they won't make the 8 but bottom 4 is a stretch for me.

They always seem to have their best seasons when everybody least expects it.

2011, 2015 and 2018 are all examples.

I reckon GC will knock them off Rnd 1 personally. Could be 1-5, maybe 0-6 based on that list.

Main prediction that matters is Carlton isn't making the 8. Cerra, Hewett and Young in while losing Petrevski-Seton and Jones is mostly just non-factors and then bringing in ****ing Voss of all people as the new coach, need I remind you the drop Port made when he came in as an assistant, and he spent all 7 years at Port as an assistant under Hinkley of all people. They went 8-14 and finished 13th and those changes are enough to make them climb up to 4th-6th on the ladder? You're dreaming.

u wot m8? Jones and Young probably cancel each other out sure, but Cerra and Hewett are absolutely miles better than ****ing Petrevski-Seton. That's like calling Butters and Drew 'non-factors'.

It’s a logjam from 5 through 12 but the double up games as always skew the draw and final standings. Expect we hover at 50% win-loss for most of the season and cough up a bad loss or two in the final month to miss the 8.

Hopefully it means Ken is gone.
