The league B&F winner has always finished high in the coach votes, so I've added a poll based on that.

Bates hasn't polled well historically (19 career votes). She won the Lions' B&F and co-won the BigFooty Player of the Year award in 2017, but only received 4 votes from the umps that season. In her second club B&F season, 2020, she only received 4 votes again (though Brisbane weren't as good that year).

Similar can be said of Jasmine Garner (17 career votes), who also only got 4 votes in 2020 despite winning both the AFLPA and AFLCA awards.

The tide possibly began to turn for Ebony Marinoff last year, picking up 11 votes (having managed 15 in the previous 4 combined), though she was still a couple behind teammate Anne Hatchard.

Past winners have all been on a team with a really good win-loss record, making it hard for Lamb, Conti, Blackburn and McDonald from that above list. And probably Lambert too, who's never got much from the umpires.

The one improvement West Coast made this season, evidently a better voting system...
West Coast Club Champion Top 10
1st: Emma Swanson (50)
2nd: Dana Hooker (26)
3rd: Parris Laurie (17)
4th: Evie Gooch (16)
5th: Bella Lewis (15)
6th: Aimee Schmidt (14)
7th: Ashton Hill (13)
=8th: Belinda Smith (12)
=8th: Mikayla Bowen (12)
=8th: Charlie Thomas (12)

Some of last year's howlers repeated there to a degree, but none affecting the trophies this time.

Best field we've had in six seasons. Wardlaw and Munyard also took worthy hangs, and Dawes on the weekend probably took the season's best courageous grab, but they've got the final 3 nominees right. Antonio a genuine chance to win both MOTY and GOTY, what a player. Think I'm going with Randall in this case though.

Sticking with Antonio here, however. Based on previous years (I'm thinking particularly Ashley Sharp winning over Kirsten McLeod), the straightforward speed run of Bannan's will get up. Georgia Gee's goal has a bit of Ben Cousins 1999 about it, in the sense that the involvement of the teammate (Prespakis/Matera) was the more exceptional part of the play (might've said the same about a Phillips2Thompson goal a few years ago).

Anybody been following the Fan Awards stuff? Some of the categories are very lame, some of the nominations even worse. Felt like we were on the right track today with "Matchwinning Moment"--first 3 all logical candidates--until they put Perko's missed shot in as the fourth choice! Unreal.

Despite not having a bad game this year, I can think of a more appropriate description than merely consistent. A gem of a player (and I'm talking EMerald, forget about gold or platinum or diamond) with the quicksilver hands of a wicket-keeper and, best of all, s m a r t like a snake.

But if you want to talk about her reliability, managing to sustain a high level of on-field performance while your house gets flooded probably speaks volumes. I doubt Sarah Jones knows enough about Queensland football to ask the question, though I'm guessing this year's B&F award is going straight to the pool room next to a fistful of Lloyd Bates Medals.

Hatchard one vote short of a GF BOG, one vote short of a League B&F.

Lambert in 7th place. Not in the house to receive her AA trophy, what up with that.

I will post all club-by-club breakdowns when I can, unless somebody else is able to do it first.

In a season of fifties, let it not go unnoticed that Ellie Blackburn and Karen Paxman became the first players to bring up the half-century last night. Both now sitting on 54 career League B&F votes.

She sure was. The top 10 list I initially used came from the Herald Sun, which had "Emily" Marinoff finishing in third, no surprise that wasn't the only mistake.

8.30pm AEST for Melbourne
8.30pm ACST for Adelaide
8.30pm AWST for Perth
11pm AEST for Brisbane and Sydney (but you can watch from 8.30pm on 7plus).

I guess I'm most intrigued by who gets the Most Courageous award this year, since Chelsea Randall x4 and Bowers are the only previous recipients and neither are nominated this time. Something tells me it'll go to Kirsty Lamb, though there are certainly a bunch of worthy potential winners.

Third club B&F for Prespakis in an otherwise underrated season. Moody way back in 4th spot, if that evaluation is reflected contractually then she'll definitely be out the door to Hawthorn as reported.

Speaking of Carlton, Katie Loynes announced her actual retirement tonight at the Giants' B&F. Results from their count to come through soon.

second time in a tie.

Mmm... there have been a few ties over the years, and I always feel like some votes may be fudged to create it.

Having a second tie, well, where there's smoke...

Not much point having a count, just hand the awards to your favourite players. More big names on the honours board. Give out more carrots to help prevent them leaving. Manufactured result. Can't have Lamb getting runner-up again. Another tie at the Dogs, what a surprise. Very iffy.

If any club would know that a B&F doesn't equal recommitment, it'd be the Dogs.

2018 winner: Kearney. Immediately departed.
2019 winner: Conti. Immediately departed.
2020 winner: Huntington. Played 9-and-a-bit more games, then departed.

And without speaking for anybody else, I know I'm on record talking about the difficulty of splitting Blackburn and Lamb's seasons. So a tie seemed like a very reasonable result to me.

Colvin named in the BOG votes, genuinely clueless stuff. Paxman nowhere near it too. Goldrick the only Dee who played well enough to even be a reasonable consideration.
